As one thing dies, another is coming to life. James L. Ebron Jr died that morning, sending his son into a life-altering, identity crisis that included bouts with agoraphobia, panic attacks and suicidal thoughts. But, once he was all cried out, he had found his calling. So it was the emcee known as Cyrano (taken from the play Cyrano de Bergerac) , or Cy Yung came to be "born."
Growning up in Greenville, NC (home of rappers Supastition & Petey Pablo), Hip Hop was not Cyrano's 1st calling. It was actually the ministry of Christianity. But it was in pulpits that he learned the power of spoken word & the joys of unconditional love, and developed a keen inner sense of helping his fellow man. So growing up during the Golden Age of Hip Hop was perfect. He lists groups Brand Nubian, ATCQ, and Digable Planets among his strongest influences, along with solo artists Rakim, KRS-ONE, Kwame, Big Daddy Kane, & Nas. But one emcee best personifies the ESSENCE of Cyrano the emcee: the late, great Notorious B.I.G. Following his Dad's death, Cyrano began listening to music on a much more introspective level than ever, and soon found his pen had sum things to say of its own. His first song was a 3 verse rap he wrote & recorded to Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's "When They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)" about fallen friends and loved ones. Now, 9 years later, Cyrano is putting out his first official album, Back 2 Lyfe through Free At Last Music Group, prepping his 2nd official album through Backpackers Anonymous Music Group, along with putting together numerous mixtape projects and cameos/guest features with other artists and producers from around the world. Its been a long road, but he's forged in fire and stronger than ever. Cyrano wouldnt have it any other way.
Be on the lookout for Cyrano's 1st album, Back 2 Lyfe, which will be released 1st quarter, led by the single, "Special," featuring Detroit singing sensation Hanan. Also, Cyrano will also be releasing a collaborative EP with Chicago producer J-SLIKK entitled "Soul Train Dancer: A Tribute To Rosie Perez" later this year
