Sounds Like
At this point, An Audio Apocalypse at Your Doorstep. Artists I would like to think I've sounded similar to in the past might include Brian Eno, The Orb, DJ Shadow, DJ Krush, Thievery Corporation, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Autechre and maybe Moby. Probably even Pink Floyd, and whoever else appreciates layer upon layer of psychedelic meanderings. These days I'm tryin to concentrate on dubstep, because it jiggles my atoms the hardest right now.
" Cyrusfx is an expert... His expertise shows in songs like "Dotz," which will trap you in its ambient sounds that synthesizes nu-jazz fusion with a funk, island backdrop. The rest is a psychedelic trip that's an escape to a Hawaiian get-away." -URB Magazine, Nov 2006
"The answer to all questions ever asked by man lies in the answer to this one:
Why is there anything at all??" - Cirrus Squalor, Esq.
from whenceforth came Cyrusfx, and broke some earth with his experimental electronica, with the golden nugget of rationalization that music is imperatively existent to offer us some of the best insight into that which makes us most human. By inducing altered states of consciousness through rhythm, bass, tambre and tonality, we are given an aid in our quest to glimpse at the difference in the makeup of our own subjective perceptions and an objective-based reality.
The power of the groove be with you, and also with you."
Inspired by the DIY home studio technology revolution (a la Brian Eno, Aphex Twin & Global Communication), Fx vowed to be at the forefront of how it applied to the cultivation of new and modern musics (whether or not they are bonafide are up to you). Traversing the grounds of hip hop, funk, house, ambient & techno, no one genre can suitably capture his array of musical endeavors.
Since a formative stint as keyboardist with the 'legendary' Santa Barbara techno-industrial outfit Big Techno Fighter (with Cody Herzog and Kevin Minor), Cyrus has grown into the roles of producer, DJ, arranger and beatmeister, and to date has released 5 albums worth of work:
Fxs first solo attempt, "Mega Universe" (an intergalactic, experimental/ambient concept album chronicling the failures of the space program) was released in 1997, followed by 2000's "Y" (hardcore techno/trance meets roots drum n' bass meets highly-tinkered electronica) and 2002's "Impermenance" (a jazzy groove-based, deepspace trance/house excursion). The left-overs from that session were collected in 2003s Less Permenant (poignant eletro-folk and avant jungle ballads), while The Cirrus Squalor Album (2004) tested the aural limits of the Emu XL-7 Command Station and modern MIDI technology.
Currently, the Fx is working on more funk-based electronic psychedelia, guaranteed to please even the most cynical of the post-rave techno-heads. Peace 0 & respek (a word which has lost so much meaning, that if you were to try and look it up in the dictionary you couldn't even find it)
"When it was over, all I could think about was how this entire notion of oneself, what we are, is just this logical structure, a place to momentarily house all the abstractions. It was a time to become conscious, to give form and coherence to the mystery, and I had been a part of that. It was a gift. Life was raging all around me, and every moment was magical. I loved all the people, dealing with all the contradictory impulses - that's what I loved the most, connecting with the people. Looking back, that's all that really mattered."
