CZERWIE came into being spontaneously in 2000 during an open air festival in Roczyny near Cracow, the Beskid Maly Mountains in Poland.
They have developed their own, original style that combines sound-rich modern trance music with Slavic and Yiddish folk art and tunes from the Caribbean, Tibet and Afrika. It is a combination of rough punk beat, Afro-American rhythm, catchy tunes, cabaret-like performance of thought-provoking and unconventional lyrics.
Musicians put together apparent contradictions: macabra elements with a good dance, cheerful tunes with classical and folk music and with heavy sounds of the guitar and the rhythm section.
Altough their name (eng. The Worms) evokes grim connotations, their music is full of life, energy and colour with the characteristic trumpet, accordion and mandolin. It is a fusion of tradition and progress.
They also against the rigid division into musical styles by blending them all, drawing on their own experiences in playing, their native tradition, and the cultural heritage of the global village. This eclectic-electric art is called psychofolk.
