Downpour was started about 8 years ago at Lucerne Baptist Church. Our youth group, then called "Big Life Student Ministry" consisted of about 10 people. Our youth minister, Jonathan Long started up this praise band and took part in it as the drummer. Ricky Maxwell, one of the regular students at Big Life became the singer/guitar player and still is to this day. Ricky's brother, Josh Maxwell was the bass player at that time but moved on about 6 months later. That is when I joined (Matt) as the band's new bass player.
Downpour stayed like that for awhile, every so often one of the girls from the youth group would sing back-up on a song or two. Then in 2002 Jonathan moved on to minister to another group of teenagers. After that we have had three other drummers. The first of which was one of the adult leaders, Dave Ratcliff, he played for a good bit and was known as "the round man of sound". He eventually had to give up playing due to health conditions. The next one was Brandon Williams. Brandon was one of the youth and he was interested in playing the drums, so we taught him some of the songs and welcomed him on board. Brandon then left because of his involvement in after school activities and our new youth pastor, Steve Tucker has been the drummer ever since. About the time that Brandon became our drummer I left the youth group because of school and work, and I showed Joe Donald a few of our songs and he took the lead from there.
Since then I have come back to the church and was the roadie, until Brandon left again due to work. I'm the new drummer and Joe has taken over being our roadie. A couple new people have joined, Sarah Gates is now our bass player and we've started to have Cassey Curran sing backup.
Below are some videos that we've done on Wednesday nights, lots of fun stuff. Come by if you can and join in, who knows...maybe you'll be featured in one of these games.
