Born and raised in Liège (Belgium), where he still lives, da Boulou is the brains behind the ‘Sculpture’ structure. He dived into electronic music in the late nineties, when he met some of the pioneers of the house Belgian scene like Koenie (Wallys Groove World), Steve Cop and especially Charles Schillings (Pschent) who will trigger his will to become a DJ.
In 1996, he joined the MVC team. Along with his friend Praxyd (Serie rec, strobe rec), he became the co-managing director of the main DJ record store in the area (MVC dj Shop). Then he took part in a series of events like the Dance Opera Trip, Strictly Dance Tour, Space Ibiza Tour… In 1997, he was made a resident DJ of Liège’s most acclaimed club: La Chapelle. This opportunity led to others and he soon joined Fusion Vibes parties (Liège) and the Color Club (Maastricht, NL).
In 1999, he launched his own label and laid the foundation stone for ‘Sculpture’. Sculpture gave birth to many parties and led to the creation of a booking agency as well as 3 labels (Sculpture records, Moulage records, Kroquis records) that have produced some brilliant artists, among which Fafa Monteco (Superfunk, F), Sebastien Léger (Black Jack, F), Swirl People (Aroma), dj Jack (Real Estate, USA), dj Rhythm (Moody, USA)… and da Boulou’s friend and brother in arms; Billy Lo aka Sedat the Turkish Avenger (Crydamoure) !
Then his career got a sudden boost and da Boulou was invited in all the hottest places: La Rocca, Dockside, Cherry Moon, Space Ibiza, Soundstation, Katsu club, Fuse club, Francofolies (1999 until 2003), City Parade 2001. Over time, da Boulou was able to increase the quality and efficiency of his sets and to turn them into an explosive combination of funky rhythms eyeing Chicago’s beats and San Francisco techouse’s grooves !
In 2002, da Boulou played a major role in the organization of Liège’s very first festival of electronic music! The Liège electronic Arts Festival (LeAF), which took place in an old stronghold from World War II, hosted famous artists like Mateo&Matos (USA), Adam Beyer (SW), Secret Cinema (NL), The Youngsters (F), Darren Price (UK), Roland Casper (DE), The Hacker (F), 100% Isis (NL), Jamie Anderson (UK), Tony Thomas (UK), Loxy (UK), Dylan (UK)... In 2003, a 4th label saw the light of day: Street Nostal’ Freak, founded by Sedat and da Boulou, had its second release record licensed by Alan Braxe’s Vulture label even before it was released.
In 2006, da Boulou and some close friends sat up Burning City, an ambitious house concept which was meant to host some of the world’s best house DJs: dj Sneak (Chicago, USA), Jay West (Argentina), Kenny Hawkes (London, UK), Raoul Belmans (Leuven, B), Gene Farris (Chicago, USA)… This also led to the creation of a radio show during 3 years on Warm FM (the first Walloon radio channel dedicated to electronic music).
Since 1994, da Boulou has been one of the major actors of his city’s electronic music scene. His sets have gained energy, efficiency and consistency and are nowadays among the most acclaimed and surprising sets around. Da Boulou can boast about taking part in the creation of a movement that spread throughout the whole city of Liège. With its labels, its booking agency, the organization of events and the mere fact of being a part of this electronic music family, Sculpture embodies a true electronic music way of life. And thanks to the upcoming releases of fall 2009, it also has a bright future.
This season, a new production project will be born : da Boulou will be Isaac Fresco, the creator of a deeper and more personal message-conveying music…

"DJ Monkey …soul-stirring, excitingly edgy music…just disturbing (read ‘mind-f**king’) enough to demand attention. There is a whole spice rack of auditory flavors here, served up like fractured poetry on a collection of intensely listenable Hallmark cards from Hell." Bill Margold, Cinema Seen, L.A. X..Press
