Heroes
Welcome, folks. We'd like to share the story of Daddy's BBQ with you.... This photograph here is Daddy himself, the late James Russell Bates, goofing around pretending to stir a kettle of sauce. If the image looks familar, you probably have seen the amazing artwork (it's on the back of our t-shirts) that Chris Inglis Stebly (grandson of Walter Anderson and renowned artist in his own right) created based on it. We treasure it!
........
But going all the way back to the beginning- as a kid, when the weekends came along, my dad used to take me out on treks all along the small town back roads of South Mississippi and beyond, in search of great BBQ shacks. It was something like a hobby to him. We had some great times on those trips, and although we found some real good barbecue, it was never quite to Daddy’s satisfaction. Daddy knew barbecue, and he was convinced he could do better. So my father turned his attention to perfecting his own recipes. The result was the creation of the best barbeque sauces and dry rub on the planet.
With recipes in hand, Daddy opened a BBQ shack of his own in 1993. He never really did advertised, but word of mouth spread, and it wasn’t long before folks were traveling the back roads themselves, flocking to the woods of Jayess, Mississippi for a taste of Daddy’s special recipes.
Daddy's BBQ started in this rural setting because Daddy loved cooking wonderful food for good people. He loved his family, friends and customers, and he wanted to bring them great barbecue. So in his honor, we proudly bring you Daddy’s BBQ Sauces and Daddy’s BBQ Sweet Love® Rubs. We're confident our sauces, rubs, and recipes will bring joy to your dinner table, backyard grilling, or tailgating experience.
THANK YOU for your interest as we strive to make Daddy proud! Look for Daddy's BBQ Sauces and our Sweet Love Rubs in your local specialty gift shop, grilling store or meat market. If you can't find it, demand it, and send 'em our way! We appreciate you helping us spread the word and keep Daddy's dream alive. Thanks again, and remember, your support allows us to fulfill our commitment to do good things in our communities. We hope to hear from you soon!
Sincerely,
James Edward Bates & family

I was drinking glacier water in Alaska in that picture. We went hiking on a glacier, and there was a little stream running through. We all emptied our water bottles and put glacier water in it. It was great!

Hi from Indianola, MS, home of BB King and the new $16M BB King Blues Museum! BB King Homecoming is Friday, June 5th and it's going to be a very special one. BB has recently purchased the famous Club Ebony (where Keb Mo' showed up for the Sunday Evening Jam last week!) and will be playing there after his Concert in the Park. It is incredible to see the King of the Blues work at such close range.
