1834 - This physicist presents a paper to his colleagues on his Daedaleum (it was renamed Zoetrope in 1867 by William Lincoln). The Zoetrope or Daedelum was a horizontally rotating drum ( about 12 inches in diameter) which held pictures on the inner rim. These pictures showed forms in successive stages of forward motion. On the outer rim were equally spaced slits which the viewer looked through. As the drum is spun at speeds reaching 14 frames per second, the figures appear to perform natural movements.
