They've met some deeply cool musicians along the way and in the more extreme cases were compelled to invite them to join the cause (whatever that is). DP is now a six piece, although there's this great steel drums player....... During the nineties Daily Planet was one of the hardest working bands on the circuit, playing some of the biggest and most prestigious festivals in the world; Telluride (USA), Glastonbury, Shetland, Cambridge (UK) to name a few. In recent years the band has enjoyed the status of 'one of the Westcountry's best kept secrets' their sporadic appearances are always to packed houses of 'people that know'..... For those of you who couldn't get in or would like to hear the show again ..'Daily Planet - Live' is Released 21st May... In addition to this there is also a single, an 'iTunes exclusive' for download only..... One possible definition of the term “bluegrass” could read something like: Traditional music from several countries (mostly Celtic) fused with more improvisational music forms such as blues and jazz... “Whilst Bill Monroe was embracing his Scottish heritage Earl Scruggs was busy re-working New Orleans Jazz tunes on his banjo”.. It is this broadest of definitions, that affords Daily Planet the flexibility to explore so many different styles of music without losing any focus, direction or identity. Far from it Daily Planet is probably one of the most distinctive and unique bands you’ll hear anywhere. Daily Planet play bluegrass albeit on their own terms. They've taken what they feel are the important elements, the original concepts, and the spirit of this vibrant and fast evolving style of music and have imposed their own culture on it in much the same way that Django Reindhardt did with the American swing music of the ‘30’s and ‘40’s or artists like Eric Clapton and the Rolling Stones did with the blues in the ‘60’s..... ....Musical influence between the British Isles and United States is a two way street. American country music grew out of the ballads and dance tunes that the English, Scottish and Irish immigrants brought from home. Conversely, Chuck Berry and Little Richard inspired The Beatles, who’s music then reflected back to US listeners, teaching us so very much about our own musical art forms. This action serves to preserve and even renew the roots, and teaches us to appreciate what we all have in common. ..The innovative virtuosos in Daily Planet refresh the modern Bluegrass and Country Rock scene... Their unique perspective is invaluable to the health of American roots music..... .. ..Tim O’Brien...... ..Subscribe.. to Daily Planet's mailing list...... .. .. ......Email..:.......... .... ..Subscribe..: .. ..Unsubscribe..: ...... .......... .. .. .. .. ..
