Dakrya were created in Athens, Greece, in late 2004, when classically trained keyboard player Sophia X (aka Sophia Charalampous) decided to combine a slew of disparate musical influences (heavy metal, goth, progressive, symphonic, and art rock) with a theatrical presentation.
Not surprisingly, this experimentation necessitated several demos, numerous personnel changes, endless rehearsals, and many a live performance to be hammered into shape -- but, by 2008, it resulted in Dakrya's debut album, Monumento, which received much praise for its highly unusual yet carefully conceived musical concept. Greater touring opportunities followed, but Sophia X and her bandmates -- operatic vocalist Thomais Chatzigianni (ex-Insidius Infernus), rock vocalist Christina Kalantzi, guitarist/vocalist George Droulias, guitarist Angelos Charogiannis, bassist Alex Drake, and drummer Stavros Vorissis -- were soon hard at work on Dakrya's even more ambitious sophomore album, Crime Scene, which was released to equal measures of acclaim and perplexity through Sensory Records in 2010. ~ Eduardo Rivadavia
