I started playing music professionally in the mid 1970s working in country, blues and rock bands all around Los Angeles and Orange County. The first decade of my career was spent as a sideman-playing guitar for various singer/songwriters but I always had an eye on one day fronting my own group.
In the mid 1980s I realized that I had enough original songs and that it was time to play my own music. I began to hit the open mic nights at various coffee houses and bars.
One night in the mid 1980s I signed up to play on “No Talent Night” at Al’s Bar downtown Los Angeles. I got a great response so I put together a trio and called the band The Rhythm Lords and we started playing weekend shows there. We played rock, blues and all forms of roadhouse and blues-a-billy.
During the next decade and through a few personnel changes, we released four titles on Rebecca Records (“The Rhythm Lords”, “Evil”, “Happy Hour” & “Lone Wolf”) and spent years touring the US, Canada and Europe before disbanding around 1997.
I released my first solo CD (“Full Circle”/Rebecca Records) in 1999. But there was some unfinished business I needed to take care of.
I had always planned to tip my hat to my father, Harry Peterson who was a working country musician, singer, and songwriter. I wanted to revisit the music that my father played during the 1950s & 1960s when I was a boy.
So “Bandera” (a collection of classic country music covers) was released in 2005 on my new record label, Root 66 recording company. I released a second CD dedicated to my father titled “Son of Harry” in 2007. This time around I recorded a full set of all original material with two of the songs being written by my father years ago and finished by me recently.
I am writing new material and I am already planning new releases in the future on Root 66 but the main project I am currently working on is my first book of poetry. “Do Not Stop In The Red Zone” due this summer (2008). I’ve been writing poetry since I was a kid and will be publishing several chapbooks in the coming years of poetry spanning nearly forty years of writing. I am planning to launch a second My Space profile that will focus on my folk art, photography and poetry.
