-Dalindèo is a Finnish jazz-sextet founded and led by composer/guitarist Valtteri Pöyhönen in 2003. The intention of the group is to keep the original jazz spirit alive with heavy emphasis on danceable rhytms, characteristic melodies and the craftmanship of top musicians. As opposed to a lot of contemporary jazz, you don't need to be an aficionado to be able to enjoy this music.
-The shadows of jazz giants Duke Ellington and Charles Mingus create a fruitful basis for the timeless tunes V.P. writes. Without any feeling of nostalgia, one can listen to this post-modern jazz-music as not a tribute to days gone by but as something belonging firmly to the 21st century. The extensive use of woodwinds, brass and classical percussion throughout the arrangements gives the music a quality remeniscient of high-class big band/orchestral jazz music. Meanwhile the atmospheres of the tunes leave room for your imagination to visualize moments and places and events.
-If the bands debut album "Open Scenes" (-07) had a light atmosphere, strongly influenced by Brazilian music, the follow-up "Soundtrack for the sound Eye" focuses on darker, cinematic atmospheres and instrumental stories. Naturally, the bands recognizable charasteristics are still present: strong melodies throughout, deep rhytms and inventful arrangements. This time around V.P. has taken up the production duties as well as writing and arranging all the music.
-The sound of the upcoming album "Soundtrack for the sound Eye" (released in November -09) is very "live" with strong presence from the rhytm section and especially the young Finnish star drummer Jaska Lukkarinen. The bands interplay is as tight as ever after gigs in Finland 12 other European countries in the last two years. Tuomas Kallio, who produced Dalindèo's previous releases is still present and mixed and worked the sound of the album.
-The album also features the voice of Bajka, the fantastic poet from Berlin, on two tracks "Willpower" and "New Creation". The tracks were written in collaboration between V.P. and Bajka with Bajka providing the full-of-meaning lyrics.
