About me:
After staying over at Great Ormond St. Hospital for the past two weeks getting prepared to receive his gift of life. At approximately 12:25pm on the 27th June 2007. We are happy and overwhelmed to say baby Damario has received his bone marrow transplant. He is currently recovering and doing very well.

DAMARIO AUGUSTINE THOMAS
Our son Damario was born on the 23 December 2006. He was diagnosed at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) with haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) on the 25 January 2007, a rare and life-threatening haematological condition. He has been having medical treatments including chemotherapy and the only way of curing his illness is a bone-marrow transplant. Furthermore, he is also Neutropenic due to the chemotherapy; this means he has no immune system and is very prone to infection which can be very fatal to him.
He continuously stays in hospital for weeks at a time, and it’s has been our responsibility to protect him as much as we can from infections etc… however his condition can change at any given time such as; low haemoglobin, low oxygen etc… which requires immediate hospital admission.
At first we struggle to find the balance between acknowledging the reality of Damario condition, and the fact that black and ethnic minority are under represented in the bone-marrow register, which means there is no telling when they will find a bone-marrow match or where they will find it, due to insufficient black and ethnic minority in the donor register.
The complex emotions, frustrations, confusion, fear and lifestyle changes that follows Damario diagnosis has been almost overpowering for our family, But we are strong and determine not to allow this disease to dominate Damario.
We are pleading to all black and ethnic minority people and communities in the United Kingdom to join us to save Damario and all the children, and people in similar needs.
