Grow Your Own "Upload 3" line-up announced for 2009
Twenty fresh new bands have been selected for the latest volume of Foghorn Records ‘Grow You Own’ series for 2009. Following its release a string of showcase gigs will take place across the country to promote the artists featured on the new compilation.
Many of the bands have already received major airplay such as Michael Peter on Triple J and Angelik on Nova Adelaide. All songs were selected from over 300 submissions. The bands either recorded their track from scratch at Damien Gerard Studios in Balmain or submitted a finished Master recording.
This release follows the long tradition of Grow Your Own CD's running for over a decade and providing an excellent taste-maker snapshot of up and coming acts from around the country for both industry and consumers alike.
The past success stories speak for themselves and have included Faker, Peabody, Sick Puppies, The Panics and many more

Introductory Deal for Myspace Artists
Recognising the wealth of undiscovered talent on Myspace, DGSS has introduced a new package to help these acts get to the next level.
Each month we will choose 2 artists from our submissions to participate in the deal, they will receive:
*6 hours free pre-production time
*A full 10 hr day of recording and mixing with one of our professional engineers for only $500 (usual book rate is $700), 10 CDRs, of which one will be submitted to Foghorn's A&R department for appraisal.
*Press Release sent out to media.
A typical session would go something like this:
Day 1: 5pm - 11pm set up, pre-production, work on sounds
Day 2: 10.30am - 10.30pm, Full 10 hr lock-out for tracking, overdubbing and mixing.
At the end of the session 10 CDR's are run off and one is submitted to Foghorn for appraisal. You'll also receive a professional Press Release sent out to street press, online, print, music industry etc by our media department which can include images and gig dates as well.
Submissions
To be considered for this deal all you have to do is send an email to info@damiengerard.net with "Submission for DGSS Intro Deal" in the subject line. Be sure to include all your contact details and a link to your Myspace band page in the text. We will check out your songs and place you in the running to be picked. We'll notify you that we've receieved your submission and if you're picked we'll be in contact with you within 30 days.
*If you are chosen you will need to confirm your booking (we will give you a range of studio dates) by email and will need a deposit within 7 days or you will forfeit the opportunity.

Stella's Kitchen
For a new unsigned band, being on Upload 2 Compilation CD provided the spark to leverage attention locally and nationally. As a launching platform, Stellas Kitchen used the CD to open doors within the industry appearing on local TV, 96fm radio and over 70 performances - which included motor shows, charity events and interstate gigs. The CD also assisted OBaby¹ to be selected on 20,000 Compilation CD¹s to be distributed across Europe in 2009.

It's very exciting. I feel very lucky to be surrounded by good people right now, yourselves included. It's been a wonderful experience and sometimes it can be a long time between wonderful experiences so it's nice to soak them up.

LATEST SESSION NEWS: - Highlights Include
Last week was the debut 'Live in the Studio' sessions at DG's.
We spent the entire week running a mini-concert each night to diehard fans of each featured artist while recording live and shooting on up to three cameras. We had to keep it quiet as numbers were very limited but we can now announce that it was a huge success!
The schedule for the week went like this:
Monda: Alex Chudnovsky, solo nylon string classical guitar. Certainly a challenge mic'ing up for both live and studio simaltaneously but the results were worth it.
Tuesday: Nick and Lisel, just retruned from a 30 date European tour these guys were on fire and didn't need a 'retake' all night. One of the highlights was their brilliant rendition of the Damien Rice classic "Volcanoes".
Immolate the hard rocking south-coast boys are back for another dose of Damien Gerards hitting the MCI 2" machine hard all next week.
Wednesday: Central Coast singer/songwriter Michael Peter had fans drive down the freeway as well as his Sydney crowd to hear a fine set of tunes.
Thursday: The finale for this first trial week of shows was the biggest by far with two full lineup bands including John Kennedy's 68 Come Back Special sporting seven members and Jesse Morris and the Three Beans...that's right, a four piece! It was very much a real gig with seperate foldback console (courtesy of the AHB Wizard pictured below), changeover and smokers out on the street.
