The Damn Yankee String Band is based in Montpelier, Vermont, and consists of Sarah Hotchkiss on fiddle, banjo and vocals, John Mowad on fiddle, guitar, banjo and vocals, and until recently, Jen Wells on bass. Jen has decided to devote herself to her other project, The Dixie Red Delights, who will soon be going to Nashville for some high musical adventure. We'll miss her, but we wish them all the best!
Our old friend Dave Gaillard has been stepping up to the plate on bass for most gigs, and doing a right smart job of it, so we now consider him "90 percent positive" (inside joke) to be our bass player. We have a few other bass players who also play with us from time to time as well.
We play old time mountain music, vintage country and "hillbilly jazz", a hybrid mix of string band, country and swing music, much of it featuring John's tasty guitar pickin' Lately we've added a new genre to our repertoire: R&B (Rhythm & Banjo)!

Damn Yanks!! Thanks so much for the sweet words about us! It's really nice to be appreciated for our simple approach to this music... it seems to hit people in quite a pure way and that is such a beautiful thing to be able to share. You guys are so down-home and rockin and versatile! Hope to see you again very soon and keep us in mind when you need an opening act.
Hey y'all! I miss you guys too! My Wednesday nights certainly aren't as exciting as before. Unfortunately, I'll be in Nashville during your Langdon Street show, but I hope to catch you guys sometime after that!!
