…local singer/songwriter Dana Erlandson, has a lot of good original songs. He got great mileage out of Illinois Plates, a tantalizing tease of our distinguished visitors. It was a hit with the crowd.…well made personal songs from no one root style, rather touching on blues, country, and folk. …Warren Gerds - Green Bay Press-Gazette........................................................................................
Opening for Leo Kottke - City Centre Theatre - Green Bay, WI.
….The album, A Postcard Dream, came out last month. Pontiac Stew, his first effort, hit the market four years ago. His musical offspring certainly made the grade when Erlandson opened for Leo Kottke at City Centre Theatre. Continuing applause after a 45-minute set signaled that an enthusiastic crowd craved an encore. …Mary Colurso - Green Bay Press-Gazette..........................

March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb. Grandma said that. Although “weather wise” it was a cold but clear night in Green Bay, there was something “wild” in the air. The gathering of musical talent that two months ago was “The Title Town Three” has progressed and is now “White Rocket” . They played a set at Montagues wine bar in DePere Wisconsin. The usually laid back club’s musical fair is generally reserved for singer/songwriter types. Guitar pumping, harmonica rack wearing, mellow covers and the off original….(Bill Schulz excepted). But on the last day of February/ first of March, Gary White and friends ramped things up into a frenzy. Slowly at first swirling Gary’s original material in an alt country meets grunge fashion. (Think Super Suckers.) The tightness these guys have developed in a few weeks is testament to what good musicians they are. Whites sometimes sketchy vocals are strengthening and he’s hitting notes not obtainable two months ago…as well Gary is learning that less is more, not pushing. Of course the whole sound of this band rallies on that creedo. Less is more. The bass player Chuck has come to the forefront of their sound, and indeed is the anchor that they are fastened to. He also has been adding tasty backup vocals in increments almost unnoticeable…(less is more). Dana Erlandson is feeling a bit more comfortable with “White’s” material and he is venturing out of his comfort zones into tasteful areas of creation with his peddle steel and mandolin playing. Dana’s work is the invisible hook in this bands sound. It’s so cool! Not every band has these weapons. Phil “Gus” Gospoderak’s drumming and sense of time is very impressive indeed. Again his change ups in rhythms and perfect stops and back beats are a marvel of the percussion world! Working on not much more than a trap set, the soft spoken Gospodarek looks as though he may have stepped out of an old
Gary White and the Titletown Three Wednesday, November 26th 2008 Hinterland Brewery. Sometimes marathon runners find their stride late in a race, sometimes earlier.... but they never seem to be smooth from the start. Not the case with the sound from this band. It had a stride that was smooth and also different Different if you are familiar with Gary White and any one of the three or four friends he had on stage this night. The whole was definitely greater than the sum of the parts. From the first song there was a magic. Maybe it was the smooth bustle of Gus's drum work ever changing the feel of the songs over the night. Dana Erlandson (a local star himself) added a wide (beautiful) pallet of sound with his pedal steel magic and playful dalliance on mandolin. It seemed to bring and in fact demand Gary Whites (always powerful) guitar playing to a new level and also changed the vibe. Myself, a fan of White's songs and work for years. I recognized them but like seeing an old friend after many years they had changed.....and in a good way. This was a mellower but poignant sound. This is where these songs have needed to be and in fact White should get this crew together to record them all again the way they were meant to be.....the way they came out last night. Suffice it to say the band kicked ass last night. Almost mind blowing, but the real twister was in a body of work finding it's stride ....it's place to be. Chuck the bass player kept the sound honest. Some help by Jason Berken later in the night is always a welcome happening and White and Berken seem to shine when they are on stage together. But the night belonged to those beautiful songs, running smooth! The CG Post 11-27-08
Hi, Dana ! We sure share alot of the same favorite artists ! Really enjoyed your version of "Some of Shelley's Blues" ~ one of my very fave Nesmith tunes :-)
Sorry not to connect at the Bluebird the other night. I was getting over being under-the-weather so I couldn't quite make it for the whole night :-(
I did see your song tho' & felt for you with the wilting mic incident.... :-0 !!
Yes Dana, that's where I found you. I was reading about that competition and saw Bettysoo won, so then I checked out some of the contestants that I liked, you being one of them. But isn't Bettysoo fabulous?
