Danar is a group performing traditional Celtic music. Their music refers to ceol nua - modern Irish folk. Traditional tunes and songs are the starting point in creating their own musical ideas and putting together apparently remote worlds.
Named after Danar (Irish word for a foreigner, barbarian) the group shows an easy and laid-back attitude towards the interpretation of musical tradition. With their modern artistic sensitivity they are not afraid of incorporating unconventional ideas into their arrangements and performances. In their music you can hear jazz influences, swing beats, swaying of bossa nova, sounds from the East and dynamism of rock. Every musician brings into their music all that is really important of themselves. Everything comes together thanks to a deep fascination with Irish culture and a passion for music of Green Island. Musicians travel to Ireland to take part in traditional music sessions, to learn from masters and to meet music at its roots.
Members of the band are very involved in promotion of Irish culture in Poland. They cooperate with Polish-Irish Society and organize regular Irish music sessions.
The band debuted in 2004 at the Celtic Culture Festival in Dowspuda, Poland. They made appearances at the most important festivals of Celtic music in Poland including “The Castle” Festival in Bedzin (2005, 2006, 2007, 2008), “Magic Green Islands” Folk Festival in Cracow (2004), “Celtic Echoes” in Warsaw (2005, 2006), “Dowspuda” Festival (2007) and have played many individual concerts all around Poland and abroad ( Germany 2008, Austria 2009).
In December 2006 Danar won a special award for their interesting arrangements at the XVI International Folk Music Festival “Mikolajki Folkowe” in Lublin – the biggest folk festival in Poland. At the XVII “Mikolajki Folkowe” in December 2007 band's percussionist Patrycja Napierala won a prize for the best instrumentalist.
In April 2009 Danar recorded in Vienna debut album "Danar". Album released by Austrian label Heurekord had its première on 30th August, 2009 in Poland and on 1st September, 2009 in Austria.

Hello. It was nice to meet you on saturday in Bedzin. Pity I was not on your concert on Sunday (no holiday left :( ), but I'm sure you had a great success. Your CD sound really fantastic and its refreshing to listen it. Specially I love the jazz and folk mood. Keep jigging and reeling. Have a nice time in Wien and hope to see you soon. Kisses from Prague.
