The Disobedient Librarian's Interests
|
| General | wellduh! - being a woman and a lesbian and a transsexual, and all the gender, sexuality and girly issues, silly and serious, that go with that label. But also interested in saving our environment, politics (I'm a left-wing liberal), hiking, camping, swimming, kayaking and other low-key outdoor adventure stuff, dogs, reading (mostly classic lit and sci-fi). More about me and what I care about on my Blog: http://danatgirl666.blogspot.com | | Music |
PJ Harvey, Le Tigre, Sleater-Kinney, Fiona Apple, Can, Clutch, John Lee Hooker, Cities on Fire, Semi Precious Weapons, Soundgarden, King's X, Tool, White Stripes, Dresden Dolls, Will Oldham and Bonnie 'Prince' Billy, The Tragically Hip, Kyuss, Modest Mouse, The Crystal Method, Paul Oakenfold and other energy trance music, Joan Jett, Deltron 3030, The Decemberists, Sam Roberts, The Kills, Spoon, Dieselhed, Firewater, Tomahawk, Mike Patton, Faith No More, Chris Whitley, Alice in Chains, Tom Waits, (old) Ministry, NIN, Built to Spill, Franz Ferdinand, Fugazi, G. Horton Heat, Sonic Youth, System of a Down + many others... | | Movies | Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Heavy Metal, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Big Trouble in Little China, Short Bus, Road Warrior, Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, Thin Red Line, Serenity, Pitch Black, Waking Life, Blade, Alien, Million Dollar Baby, Ghost Dog, eXistenZ, Lord of the Rings trilogy, Them!, Army of Darkness, This is Spinal Tap, The Good The Bad and the Ugly, Miller's Crossing, Apocalypse Now, Lost in Translation, The Last Samurai, Spider-Man, The Thing (w/Kurt Russell), Beavis and Butt-Head's movie. | | Television | No cable = bliss...non cable-wise: Currently: L-Word, Heroes, Lost, How I Met Your Mother, PBS Newshour, Now, Frontline and Independent Lens - not much else worth bothering about on the boob tube! Past shows: Buffy (I'm a total Buffaholic), Angel, Seinfeld, Simpsons, Transgeneration | | Books | Anything well-written with passion! Faulkner, Plath, Bukowski, Dostoyevsky, Tolkien, David Foster Wallace, Paul Auster, William Gibson, William Vollman, etc., etc. There is a boundless amount of great books out there - just not enough time to read them all!
Recent great reads:
-The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, by Mark Haddon
-Invasion of the Body Snatchers, by Jack Finney
-Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal by Christopher Moore (as long as you don't take your religion too seriously this is an awesomely funny book)
-The Time Traveller's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
-Snow Crash by Neil Stephenson (a cyber-punk classic) | | Heroes | seems to be slim pickings these days...but anyone who stands up in the face of peer/social pressure and speaks the truth and from the heart. Senators Jim Jeffords, Barbara Boxer and Russ Feingold come to mind for some reason as well as all the t-girls out there living life to the fullest, ignoring what close-minded people think of them, and just being themselves (something I strive to do every day)! |

The Disobedient Librarian's Blurbs |
About me:
"A little child, a limber elf,
Singing, dancing to itself,
A fairy thing with red round cheeks,
That always finds, and never seeks..."
-Samuel Taylor Coleridge
T-girl (TRANSGENDERED - I'm a post-op transsexual). Sorry guys, but I am NOT into men at all - I'm straight up lez. My ideal partner is emotionally generous and ambitious, creative, funny, open-minded and intelligent and can keep an extended, thoughtful conversation going (and that job is taken thank you :-).
If you are looking for sex, look elsewhere. Just because a girl is proud of her body does not in any way mean she will give that body to any jerk with a cliched e-mail message saying "ur hot" or some other totally uncreative way of expressing infantile male lust and chauvinism...
I'm into clubbing, dancing, outdoors activities like camping, hiking and kayaking, h eavy music and live shows, books and movies that make you think, cooking, sensuality and free spirits, and intelligent conversation. I like to debate about fashion, sports, politics, low-brow philosophy, social issues, anything that matters...
Umm, I'm a bit shy when you first meet me and I'm absolutely horrible at remembering names the first time I am introduced. My professional background is in library science (Pitt grad school) and I also love history (BA in ancient and medieval history).
I have strong beliefs in truth, honesty, friendship and loyalty, open-mindedness, and having stress-free fun whenever possible. I usually don't like to make extensive plans (especially when it comes to fun!) and prefer to just go with the flow and with what feels right. I have about as anti-authoritarian a belief system as you can get without being an anarchist and still being able to hold down a regular job. I do have some lingering trust and self-image issues but am always striving to improve myself and learn from others. I'm a huge believer in self-determination and individuality as long as they are tempered by a bit of modesty and consideration for others.
I like to sometimes argue just for the sake of exercising my brain and will often take an opposing stance on some issue just to play the devil's advocate and (hopefully) help people see that most things have several sides to them (and also to annoy my friends!).
I am a bit shy around strangers but am always on the look out for open-minded, intelligent, outgoing people to hang with.
|
Who I'd like to meet:
For friendship: any open-minded and thoughtful, real people (primarily women since we all know what men want and I have zero interest in that).
If you want to add me as a friend, please at the very least send an intelligent, well-thought out message first and let me know who you are, what we might have in common or just say something interesting. Otherwise, I will basically automatically decline, k?
Oh ya: I really want to meet Evangeline Lilly (Kate) from "Lost" - she is a total hotty!
