Aislinn's Interests
|
| General | My foremost interest is sociological. I people-watch with a vehemence, and if I meet a compelling new person, I like to query them on their history. I feed off of experiences like an anecdotal parasite. Anything novel is by default interesting to me. When I have absorbed it, it loses its appeal. I like to get into people's personal space, and say things designed to make them uncomfortable, to see how they react. I read, a lot. Riding the bus and Hangover Sundays provide me plenty of time for this endeavor. I love webcomics. Something Positive, Ctrl-Alt-Delete, and Toothpaste for Dinner are checked frequently. I love comic books, but I'm picky about the ones I read. No superheroes. Unless you count The Maxx as a superhero... but you shouldn't, if you know anything about The Maxx. I most certainly attend the Emerald City Comicon. That's right people, you may see a well-adjusted, popular young lady, but really I'm just a big ol' geek. I longboard, very amateurly, and I can't wait for warmer weather. I like to make things, and I have accumulated more craft supplies than is probably reasonable. I play A LOT of Scrabble, and never say no to a game of Trivial Pursuit. | | Music | Aimee Mann, Andrew Bird, The Anniversary, Aqueduct, Brand New, Bright Eyes, The Dandy Warhols, Dashboard Confessional, Death Cab for Cutie, The Decemberists, Elefant, Frou Frou, Gatsbys American Dream, Hidari Mae, Holy Ghost Revival, Ima Robot, Jets to Brazil, Jimmy Eat World, Journey, Ben Kweller, Lindsay Lohan, The Lonely Forest, The Lyndsay Diaries, Mates of State, Modest Mouse, Nada Surf, The National, The New Amsterdams, Ozma, Peaches, Pedro the Lion, Pleasureboaters, Rainer Maria, Regina Spektor, Rocky Votolato, Slowreader, Speed not Steel, St. Vincent, The Stratford 4, The Violent Femmes, Weezer | | Movies | dark humor, horror, 80's. The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Royal Tenenbaums, Say Anything, Donnie Darko, Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Real Genius, Sixteen Candles, Better Off Dead, Legend, Pump Up the Volume, Heathers, American Psycho, The Rules of Attraction, Buffalo 66... I like a lot of movies and I don't have all day. | | Television | Jeopardy, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Law and Order, CSI (Vegas and NY only, NO Miami), Project Runway, Adult Swim (ATHF!), My So Called Life, Degrassi: The Next Generation (don't knock it till you've tried it). | | Books | Some favorites are Ada by Nabokov, and This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald. I like anything else by those authors (I've read all five of FSF's novels and most of his short stories. Nabokov was much more prolific, but I'm getting there). I read mostly classics. A few (of few) contemporary authors I enjoy are David Sedaris, Daniel Quinn, and Jonathan Safran Foer. As far as comic books go, mostly anything published by SLG is good by me. Mostly. Dark Horse, IDW, and Vertigo are pretty reliable, as well. | | Heroes | Amory Blaine, Fnarf, and The Maxx. |

About me:
Schadenfreude. Learn it, live it, love it.
As a rule, any joke I enjoy is offensive. Though I do have an affinity for the slight soul-death that is perceptible upon hearing a good (read: bad) pun.
I demand that books I read be of a high quality and have great disdain for authors of what I (perhaps unfairly) refer to as "fluff." There are too many life-changing books out there to waste my time with stuff like that. If you read them, great--the fact that you read at all deserves respect. I'm just not interested.
Despite my strict standards for enjoyable novels, I consume comics, magazines and celebrity gossip at an alarming rate. I think it's a time-management thing--if it's a book that will take at least a few hours (if not days, or even weeks) then it must be edifying, but if it'll just be quick and dirty then the bar is set low. This may or may not be a common theme in other areas of my life (if you're a betting man, I'd bet it all on "may").
I'm a vegetarian, and have been for nearly eleven years. I don't eat anything with a nervous system, to be more specific, as that generally negates any argument about whether seafood counts as meat. To me, it does. That said, if we're out to eat together, I really don't care what you order. Honestly. Eat whatever you want. Just don't think you're clever if you offer me a bite.
I drink, but never smoke or do any illicit drugs. I don't do many licit drugs either-- I am wary of most prescription drugs (including birth control), I limit my caffeine intake; I don't even take ibuprofen unless it's an extreme situation. I'm not a prude and I won't judge you if ingesting mind-altering substances is high on your priority list. As long as you're not all hopped up on goofballs while we're hanging out. Because then you'll probably be annoying.
