I'm a radio presenter who makes music for fun. I once quit my job to fulfil the lifelong ambition of my own CD album - EXCESS BAGGAGE.
There is no band - I have chosen specific musicians to perform a role on various songs I've recorded over the years. Since my first 'fumblings', the demos became more detailed and produced. For the past eighteen years, this has largely been under the guidance of record producer John Hamilton who will allegedly work with anyone if the money is right. Thankfully, he couldn't find anyone he would rather produce (or maybe the talented Scot saw the money and is easily bought) and so the album was done - after a loose agreement that I would leave him my Ovation guitar in my will. I didn't, but you try telling that to an assertive Scotsman.
So -
John Hamilton plays all keyboards and guitars which I'm rubbish at ....
Ffion Wilkins provided her considerable vocal talents to backup my dodgy efforts ...
I provided the cash for everyone and a good time was had by everyone except my bank manager - who is still probably complaining about it.
We hired other sax players; bass players; keyboard players; drummers ... and no doubt, should have hired a better lead vocalist.
But as a well-known prolific guitarist said to me:
"What's the point of spending all that money on an album if you're not going to sing on it?"
Good point.
I've suffered for my art, now it's your turn. :-D
