As Dan states... we were blessed to get some tremendous talent to help us on the record." Tremendous talent is no exaggeration. Some of the players on the record include Texas steel guitar and dobro legend-Lloyd Maines, Ace In The Hole Band's fiddle virtuoso-Gene Elders, two time Grammy winner-Floyd Domino on keys and renowned producer-Ernie Wells
Raised in Lubbock, TX, Dan was exposed to the music of many local favorites. The Maines Brothers Band, Terry Allen, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, Joe Ely, Waylon Jennings, Robin Griffin Band, Stacy Bridges, and Mac Davis to name a few. Although he has always liked music he was really more into girls, cars and parties than anything else during high school.
For reasons he won't say, Dan joined the US Marine Corp Reserves his first year at Texas Tech. He was surprised to get the call to serve in Desert Sheild/Desert Storm a year or so later. (Dan jokes that he thought they said "Dessert" Storm) "I think part of me grew up by 20 years in 8 months back then. I didn't really think that I would live past the age of 21.... and then I did.... now what the hell am I going to do", says Dan. "I guess I better finish school."
While working at a guitar shop and attending college, Dan befriended another songwriter named Pat Green that was just getting started. Green turned me on to guys like Robert Earl Keen, Chris Wall, and Jerry Jeff Walker. I know this sounds stupid, but at the time I don't think I realized how much great music never hits the radio.
I really enjoy almost all styles of music, but it wasnt until later that I discovered how much I truly love the singer-songwriter thing- claims Dan.
