While many musicians tend to rate on our Heroe list, the gentleman that invented the DANELECTRO Amp & the DANELECTRO Guitar; Nathan I. Daniel rates as one of our top heroes because he made it possible for so many of our performers & customers to begin to play guitar as he was the first to make the options of amplified music available to the general public by making more affordable options. Below you will find a link to his story.

About me: In late 1988, Heights Guitar owner Jim Mendenhall (Dr. Zoomac) purchased the former Leola's Steakhouse from Leola Frankel of Frankel's Costume Company to establish a live music venue. Soon the bar became a favorite place for those looking for what we now call "Americana" music- blues, rock, country, folk. The oldest blues jam in Houston started at Dan's in December, 1988 and has had as guests Tab Benoit, Greg Allman, Billy Gibbons, and Richard Gere. When Dr. Zoomac decided to turn an old bank into a guitar shop/ music venue in Moulton, Texas .. after 16 years, he sold Dan Electro's to Bob Edwards. Booking the best local, regional, and touring bands; Dan's has become internationally known as a place where anyone can relax or dance in a comfortable atmosphere with good music. Our large backyard, with brick and stone patio built by Leola's husband, is a great place to relax and visit or throw a party. Plenty of free parking is available.
Located in The Houston Sunset Heights neighborhood, established in the 1920's, 30's, and 40's, Dan Electro's is two blocks from the great Airline Farmer's Market and several very good restaurants on Airline Drive. Nearby North Main also has many good restaurants, some reflecting the Hispanic influence of the area. Several are open until midnight on weekends and a few 24 hours.
In essence we are a small club dedicated to the lesser known but talented local and regional musicians. We feature a Blues jam on Thursday nights which has boasted some of Houston's finest musicians and different feature bands each Friday & Saturday nights. Each night @ Dan Electro's is different and will feature different music, some of our regular performers are people like CARRIE ANN BUCHANAN, CAROLYN WONDERLAND, BEANS BARTON & THE BIPEDS, THE FONDUE MONKS, PLUMP, & BLENDT.
For those of you wanting to sample music we are featuring each week, note that we change our top friends each week to give a direct link to the people playing soon. Thanks for checking out our page, yer pals @ DAN ELECTRO'S GUITAR BAR.

HEY BOB! Hats off for booking Guitar Shorty last weekend...it was an outstanding show. DR RICK & THE BURNERS was honored to open & we had a great time! Wonderful crowd, and as always, great ambience! Cool that you've added the pool table and food, and we always love to hang on the patio between sets! See you at Thursday's BLUES JAM!
Hey PJ, this is to apologize for not making your show Friday night, WELCOME HOME. While I can't be there, my heart is. I've really enjoyed you & LEESA leaving comments on facebook while you've been on tour. I always thought y'all belonged in those spots. If you haven't ever been able to listen to MAGGIE BELL, you need to. I have one live recording that I thought was you until I looked @ the CD again. MAGGIE BELL was also managed by PETER GRANT & some people feel that she was the lady ROBERT PLANT; other people referred to her as the British JANIS JOPLIN. At any rate not many people here have her work & even fewer realize that some people believe that PETER GRANT'S time with ZEPPELIN took away from him ever doing anything to promote her & that's why more folks haven't heard of her, as her name was Bell, I researched it. Hope you have an awesome show, I've tried to tell some folks to go out & celebrate my birthday for me with Y'all as I won't be able to. Have a wondersome evening & WELCOME HOME, LOVE MELL BELL.
KELSEY & RYAN I want to congratulate y'all & wish you a very long & FRUITFUL LIFE together, yer pal MelL Bell aka StarSong.
Sadly we will pay our last respects to Ron Belson today. We will be doing a set tonight at the 19th Hole. It wiil be tough to play there without Ron watching from the corner stool in the band side bar or standing at the door. RIP brother.

All right, this has been a very active week for us. We are getting many hits in Houston and inquiries about what we play. I cut my music teeth in Cleveland, Ohio in the late'70's. That is why we play the nasty garage rock sound we do. What do you expect from a member of The Pagans, Emo?... So we are asking all these new friend to come out next Friday to Dan Electro's on E. 24th off N Main St... Let's get to know each other in a more personal way, drunk and blasting some killer rock n roll!!!... Then we hit White Swan and Corpus in May!... See ya soon.
