    ..i'm kinda into... ..

feminism, art, politics, sex appeal, sex(y)(ual) freedom, feminist art, DIY, feminist music, riot grrrl, punk, independent designers, feminist porn, street art(ists), funky renegades, trouble-makin' do-gooders, lioness ladies, "chicks", activists, hard copies, soft fabric on tough skin, gender studies, equality, caller ID, word-love, literature, rants, bright colors, leopard print, sequins, beauty, strength

i'm into the kinda joy that only numerous paper jams, mosquito bites, an empty gas tank, a Staples express card, paper cuts, dirty fingers, and a diet vanilla coke can give. I'd also like to give a shout out to the neglected correction tape in my typwriter.

Hakkımda:

"Feminists come as writers, students, musicians. They can be that guy with an unmistakable love o the alt. music scene. They can be that crazy girl at the side of the stage taking hits to the face and spitting right back; feminists could just as easily come as that quiet girl in class or the outspoken picket-toting vegan. We can wear heels + your varsity jacket and look as good as we do wearing our own + sneakers. We can be strippers or nurses. We can be teenage mothers or single 30-somethings. Pro-choice with a baby on the way.

We'll dye out hair pink + save the world ourselves." BannerFans.com

Before You Add Me... Ok, so let me get one thing straight before you read any more of this profile: I love having friends, and I love spreading my zine around. But if you have no interest in feminism, DIY, indie music, me, or any of what my zine stands for, do not bother adding me. I've gotten silly requests ever since I started using myspace two years ago, and I always, always, always check out the profile first. If you are actually interested in this zine, by all means, I would love to be your friend. But if you need another number to add to your "myspace friends count", please don't bother. Thanks.

What does Danger! Hole stand for? Here's the summary: I am 19, super cute, and super angry. And opinionated. ..Danger Hole.. is my zine, where I dump all my thoughts, feelings, + inhibitions on the issues that matter to me. I try my best to cover everything 3rd-wave feminism + Riot Grrrl related;

DIY culture

art

porn

punk + riot grrrl

hatin' on body-hatin'

politics

harassment

cliches

sex

The first issue + prelude of my zine were done by yours truly but in the future, with a few exceptions, the rest of ..Danger Hole..'s life will be lived by every girl and boy willing to take part in it. I'm always willing to take submissions + critiques, even ideas for future issues. I started this zine to showcase some of my essays and get back criticism, but since then, I've decided to give the same opportunity to any other writers/artists. If nothing else, ..Danger Hole.. exists to promote girl-love and connect beautiful thinkers who deserve exposure and feedback.

"don't sit and wait for the next Gloria Steinem to write the book that will kick off the next defining wave. Those days are gone, and we are the remaining sons and daughters of those feminists before us. WE NEED TO DEPEND ON GRASSROOTS FOR A FUTURE. Zines, blogs, independent artists and designers need the most support, and they have quite possibly the most to offer.

Support a starving artist + feed feminism: independent media.

Pre-Issue, June 2007
Well, kids, I just finished up my 'Dangerhole prologue', if you will. This isn't the first issue-- that I'm still working on. But this is a near must for anyone interested in up-and-coming issues. I explain myself here, give a quick synopsis of riot grrrl, feature a super-secret article (not such a secret anymore, I suppose), question feminism's relevance today, blah blah blah. 20 pg.s long, this pre-issue issue is on sale for $2, but once I get the first issue out, I will be offering both copies for $3.

..
Issue 1 -Buysexuality-, July 2007
I'm pretty proud of this issue, it was my first "OFFICIAL" ..Danger Hole.. piece, and I've been through so much since I started constructing it. Originally, this was to be the other half of the June 2007 set, but I was recently hospitalized + put 3 weeks behind my original deadlines. I had my fair share of doubts and troubles during the production of this issue, but in the end, I feel completely confident that you will love it.

This issue is 18 pgs. long and it's on sale for $2. With the purchase of the Prelude June 2007 issue, there is a discount: both for $3 altogether. This issue features a book review, articles on Xtina Aguilera as the new "faceoffeminism", American Apparel, and Guys Gone Wild, as well as a centerfold collage and short story about a potential lesbian affair. Check back here soon for some pdf files from this issue. As always, contact me if you want to know how to get this issue. And check out the blogs for more info on this issue. Thanks!

..
   Issue 2-Re-defining Girl-, August 2007
This issue ranks in at 50 pages, hosting multiple contributors (featuring zine queens, DIY business-woman heroines, and lovely grrrls-and boy- from around the world). Originally, Re-Defining Girl was never meant to get past 20 pages, and here we are a month later with more than 2x that! Because of the extra work (and trees) that went into producing this chunky little zine, I had to hike the price up to $3. This issue is worth it though, with a book review of Bitches, Bimbos and Ballbreakers: An Illustrated Guide to Female Stereotypes, an open-ended question on pro-or-con chivalry, 'i am a cliche' test, 'boy, the poster girl' a short fiction, D.I.Why?, some cute, sick little pictures drawn by Ms. Kt, and interview with Nicole Klein of 'The Hourglass', and more that you'll have to get an issue to find out about!

..
    Issue 3-My Body's Image-, September 2007

Sorry for the delay, darlings; strange how 9 months into a year can be considered a "fresh start"... Well a lot of things are changing around these parts: Issue 3 of Danger! hole, for example has gained a little weight since the last issue, and remains the same price! This time around we have 66 pages, and still host a fabulous array of contributors. Some names may look familiar to active zinesters, and there are the new ones as well. As with Issue 2, because of the extra work + rain forests that went into producing My Body's Image, the price will stay at $3. The issue features a double-book review of Cunt and The Vagina Monologues, a word search, resource links, 'Girl Dumb' short fiction, articles on pro-ED websites, the Dove Real Beauty campaign, and 'Girl-Lovin Yr body-- without losing yr mind'. Of course, there are a few secrets to my zine-baby that you'll have to buy her to find out about! ..

.. .. ..
Issue 4-When 'No' Means 'Yes'-, October 2007
Remember when I thought 66 pages was chunky? This time, for our sexual harassment issue, our little baby is growing up + its morbid obesity is something no one is concerned about. We barely scraped by finishing this issue on time (4 hours before the end of the month, to be exact) but boasting a healthy 84 pages, we aren't complaining! And at $3, you won't be complaining either! We've got features like how to say "NO" in any language, an article on what YOU need to know about Date Rape Drugs, lyrics from the Dresden Dolls and Ms. Julie Ruin, 'How To: Kick A$$ Like You Mean It', 'Reality Show Rapists-in-Training' on The Pick-Up Artist, a piece from the lovely Ms. Lucy Gruesome, contributions from various kids on their own sexual harassment situations, a few fun games to pass the time, as always: a prose piece, a bit from the editor on Sexist humor, and more more more that you'll need to find out about on your own!
..
Issue # 5-Cross My Legs & Hope to Die pt. 1-, November 2007
At 62 pages, Issue # 5 is certainly more lean than our previous issue; but that's not to say this zine-child isn't dense as hell!  In first grade, your darling Editor Liouxsie (who went by Daffodil Doyle at the time) brought in a fully illustrated parents-to-child guide for 'the Birds n Bees Talk' to my class... and the phone calls home began!  Apparently, my affinity for stirring up a bit of trouble with my comfort relating to sexuality and sexual health hasn't lessened over the years.  This time, perhaps, no one will tell on me?   Issue # 5 features the True and Untrue versions to the 10 steps (for putting on a condom), an article on electro-slut Peaches, a female-friendly sex store, the not-so-friendly catfight between pro-sex and anti-porn feminists, news of one Presidential candidate's controversial sex education in schools plan, several accounts of our contributors' sex ed in schools experiences, information on birth control and the latest rage in preventing girls from accessing birth control, a few interactive pieces, an interview with Sam of CODEWORD: Cereal, and more.  I gave away too much already, and now you've gotta get a peak at this issue! ....

..
Issue # 6-when the girl rioted-December, 2007-February 2008
Typically, an issue of D!HZ eats up approximately a month to a month and a half of your precious editor's youth. yet for seam-splitting Issue 6, three times that period was swallowed whole. And if I do say so myself, the time and work really shows. At a daunting 122 pages holding just short of 30 pieces, this issue is a mixed package of DIY cut'n'paste style articles and the girth of a magazine done by someone with... a lotta time on her hands. A few of the titles hosted include "The Unrequited Tsunami: manifestas through the decades", a collection and critique of the infamous media-on-grrrl critiques AS WELL AS a previously unpublished riot grrrl response, "Dirty Girl Germs" a contributor piece, an interview with and review of Kerri Koch and her documentary "Don't Need You: the Herstory of Riot Grrrl", interview and review of Queer Control records & the bands they are convinced will blow your mind and your speakers, a few words with JD Glass- the young author of ..Punk Like Me.., articles on groupies, the Spice Girls, punk chicks, a history of women in music, Rolling Stone magazine, and so much more my head's spinning. This issue, if you aren't sold yet!, comes with the choice of a cassette tape (free of charge) or CD (for an additional $1). This issue really is a riot of its own. $4 (US), $5.50 (International). ....

Free Ad Space

Yep, I do want to support your project, + money at this point means very little to me, so for the time being this is completely free. You do need to meet a few qualifications, first.

Your project needs to be something I actually support. No racism, sexism, homophobia, ignorance/arrogance, or blind hatred.

Because I'm not charging any money for this offer, I would appreciate trades.

Allow me to elaborate. If we trade zines or if I'm working with your distro, that automatically puts you in a position for ad space. If you would like some ad space, but aren't interested in receiving a copy of my zine (which isn't very nice, by the way), that's fine. But in exchange, it would be fair that we work out an ad space trade. The space available is 5" x 3". E-mail me first to check if your ad is "appropriate" for publication.

Danger! Hole zine isn't just about me ranting and getting out everything I want to get out: I also wanted to help create a community that allows free-thinking, "other-category" boys + girls, men + women to freely exchange ideas and passions. The only way this can be achieved is through open support of DIY.
