MySpace a place for friends

Dan Haynes, now of popular duo Groucutt and Haynes , began life as a musician in a tribute to the incredible duo Simon and Garfunkel. Gigging around the midlands Dan and good friend Peter Richards would perform as the famous duo had done in there early days with just one guitar and two voices. ‘The Sounds Of Silence’ as they were called then would only live a short life though as after only a year and a half of performing together university commitments made it impossible for the pair to play any longer.

Now unable to play live in the way he wanted Dan decided to take a break from performing and concentrate on writing some original material of his own. Taking into account his back ground to this point it was no wonder that the songs written had an under toner of Paul Simon running through them. With a simple home set up for recording these songs were recorded and given the collective title of ‘Had Some Falls’.

‘Had Some Falls’ is not greatly produced and not every vocal is polished off to industry standard but this album only goes to shows that sometimes it doesn’t need to be. The songs are amazing and the rawness of it all only further adds to the emotion of the songs. Consisting of mainly just guitar and vocals the album ran the risk of becoming a little monotone but instead becomes an example of well written songs needing nothing more than to be simply played. Lyrically the songs are easy to relate to. With songs about love to songs about just needing to escape everyday life everything written is real and heartfelt. A true gem…
