“Holmes excels at New Orleans style jazz, introspective pop, psychobilly blues, and Talking Heads-ish shaggy-dog stories. Lyrically, (he) has a jarring style that careens from hokey to near-fantastic…often within a single song.”
- David Lidquist, The Indianapolis Star
“Dan’s pretty damn talented. He’s not attempting to be the same or emulate anyone. In every song he brings in something new. Where the hell did Dan Holmes come from?”
- Melodie & Harmonie, Nuvo Newsweekly
An Indianapolis native, Dan began playing professionally at the age of seventeen. While playing with several different bands, he also did voiceover work for Sunshine Promotions. It was his first studio experience that paved the way for his own studio, the Soup Kitchen. At the age of twenty four, he opened Music Station, a retail instrument shop, in Avon, Indiana. Months after its grand opening, Duke Tumatoe invited him to join The Power Trio, and begin touring the Midwest. After a year, it was time to start a new venture. Dan Holmes Group was born, and is one of the most sought after bands in the midwest. Dan still can be heard every Wednesday during football season on the nationaly syndicated Bob & Tom Show, performing with Duke Tumatoe.
Thank you! I have three huge pieces that I've been working on for the last year but I still have lots to do. They will by far be my best work to me if I can ever get them done!
DAN!!!!! Wassup!!?? Could I get your vote, please?
Here is a cut and paste from an email I received last week.
"Dear Chris, The International Songwriting Competition (ISC) has announced its finalists today. Congratulations, the song "Spotless" that you entered in Comedy/Novelty has been selected as a finalist.
Being selected an ISC finalist is an accomplishment that acknowledges true songwriting talent. With only 287 finalists chosen out of over 15,500 entrants, this is an extraordinary achievement, and we are very pleased to offer our congratulations."
Are you kidding me?!!! I couldn't believe it! You should check out some of the judges. Tom Waits! Rob Thomas! Sandra Bernhard! Weird Al! KT Tunstall! David Brenner! Ray Davies! Loretta Lynn! The list goes on and on! Billy Harvey won this for the Rock category in 2005 for "Frozen Through".
So if you go to this link http://www. songwritingcompetition. com/PVWelcome2008. htm and click "listen to the finalist songs and vote", you can vote for my song!! It's called "Spotless". They are in alphabetical order so it's kinda down there. (Near the S's!)
You have to enter your email and then open a verifying return email to vote but you only do that once and then you can vote once a day till March 31st. Help me get a respectable turnout! You know you need the good Karma!
Dan Good seeing you tonight and good talking the "bizness" with you. We gotta do something together. Oh, and I maintain that two does not make a group. If it does, then my wife and I are gonna have group sex!! heehee!
I hate this song cuz I didn't write it!! Damn it!! I love the nervous laughter from the crowd. That's what it's suppose to make them feel like!! I luv it!! anyway- here it is peace chris
