About me:
Greetings and Salutations!
My name is Danielle D. Smith, and I am a professional freelance artist and illustrator currently living in beautiful San Diego, CA. Born on the Celtic holiday of Beltane, I began drawing and painting at 15 months old (per my mother). I am primarily self-taught, despite enrollment in the San Diego School of Creative and Performing Arts from age 10 to age 18. I studied graphic design and fashion in Los Angeles and San Diego in my early 20s, which inspired certain aspects of my work. I focus primarily on the genres of Magic Realism, Surrealism, and symbolic fantasy; I am strongly inspired by world culture, folklore, mythology, world history, theology, historical fashion, and music (I was also in a rock band for five years with my husband). I am passionate about my Anglo-Celtic h@,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,<,,,, is also a big influence on my art (and I wear this pride on my skin, literally, in the form of several Celtic tattoos). My work has been featured in numerous exhibitions and festivals, and I am currently represented by District 117 Gallery here in San Diego. Online, my work has been featured on sites like Angels on the Web, Mermaids on the Web, The Dark Side of the Web, and Enchanted Artists, and my illustrations have been published in a variety of publications, including magazines and literary collections. I am currently working on a series of urban/supernatural fantasy novels that I will begin submitting to publishers/agents this summer/fall 2009.
I currently live near the beautiful San Diego Bay and Little Italy with my husband and occasional model, Aaron, and a large, ever-growing collection of books and DVDs.
