Born August 25, 1987, in Pickering, Ontario, vocalist/pianist Danica Kotsopoulos began music studies at age 8. After discovering a love for music at an early age, Danica began performing at venues across the GTA as a member of the world-renowned and award-winning Toronto Children's Chorus. She also performed frequently with Toronto’s leading non-profit theatre organization, the Toronto Youth Theatre. Now 22 years old, Danica is a music performance major at York University and studies jazz singing under the guidance of mentor and friend, Rita diGhent. She has worked alongside greats Karen Burke, Lisette Canton, Richard Whiteman, Mark Eisenman and Kelly Jefferson and Sacha Williamson. She has also studied privately with Toronto-based pianist Adrean Farrugia (leader of RICOCHET and the Adrean Farrugia/Lorne Lofsky Quartet). In past years, Danica attended the International Annual Jazz Educators Conference in Toronto, where she performed as a member of the York University Gospel Choir. She also occasionally performs with the Nathaniel Dett Chorale, currently based on Toronto. Danica currently works as a freelance jazz performer as well as a vocal instructor, playing guitar and singing in her work with Rainbow Songs. She has toured extensively in a wide range of venues with her jazz ensemble, The Danica Leigh Quartet, but is also focused on bringing the joy of music to children. Danica is currently preparing for her master’s audition into the jazz performance program at the University of Toronto. Friends, family and fans alike agree that Danica possess that "certain something," as she promotes living well while living it up!
