About me:
"It's a story waiting to be written, a song waiting to be sung, a picture waiting to be drawn, a joke waiting to be told... That's what life is all about, those ideas waiting to be shared" - One of my random thoughts, I thought i'd share it ;)
My name is Daniel Barton, I’m an aspiring author who's been writing since the age of twelve. I decided that I would become an author when my english teacher, who I had become good friends with, said he was a published author too. So, with that decision in mind, I did two college courses in ICT after leaving school and taught myself web design and learnt how to make simple images on my computer.
Before I was twelve, I had already read about two hundred books, as well Stephen Kings IT (I’ve read a couple of thousand now, but who's counting? :p). I would often dream up stories including the characters of books I’d read or things I’d watched on TV, but I never had the foresight to write them down. That changed when I was in my second year of senior school, as I wrote through most of a huge A3 art booklet as much information as I could about a story idea that was forming in my head. That idea changed a lot over time and has now become the fantasy trilogy I am working on as my debut into the writing world, so to speak.
I watched as many horror/sci-fi/fantasy/supernatural films and series as I could, it always took a lot to scare me. On top of that, is my love for violent video games, every game I have has violence of some kind in it, from the "Grand Theft Auto" series to the "Grandia" series. And while I love violence on TV or in games, I despise real life violence (Put that in your pipe and smoke it, Jack).
I also have a fondness for art - I intend to learn how to do 3D art at some point - and theatre, I went to see Woody Allen’s "Play it again Sam" and loved every minute of it.
I enjoy studying ancient cultures - Japan is my focus at the moment - and the myths & legends surrounding them. I did a poem based upon an era in Japans history that is known as "Sengoku Jidai" (The Warring States). Each of the titles is the actual title given to some of the key figures responsible for ending the war that lasted for over 150 years:
Title: Sengoku Jidai
Written by: Daniel Barton
The thundering guns are quiet now
The clashing of steel long gone
The land is filled with silence now
As the god of war looks on
New heroes are on the rise
New challenges in store
The monkey servant lived his dream
And soon came to the fore
The one-eyed dragon roars its fury
The demon king wants war
The Tiger begins to circle its prey
And the devils scream for more
Now the crimson demon takes a stand
And soon his song is sung
But in the darkness lurks an assassin
The war of shadows has now begun
The god of war stops to weep
For soon the tiger lowers his head
He closes his eyes one last time
And, like the demon king, is dead
The monkey servant served him well
That fallen demon king
And on a land made for honour and justice
Vengeance is a certain thing
The one-eyed dragon scours the land
Its fury now unleashed
The game of war is changing
And now it’s time to feast
The land has now gone quite
There’s joy in this brand new spring
For the monkey servant no longer bows
He is now the rightful king
But not all things last
It has many times been said
For soon the land is again drenched in blood
For now the monkey king is dead
But now another warrior is on the rise
And for his assassin does he send
It’s time for peace now he cries
This war of shadows must end
The assassin says nothing
For there’s nothing to say
Only death awaits
At the end of the day
And so, like a song that’s been sung
This battle, like a game, has been won
A new servant is king, the first Shogun has come
A new day begins, in the Land of the Rising Sun.
