My influences came from artists and musicians such as Gordon Lightfoot, Jim Croce, James Taylor, Keith Whitley, John Conlee, John Prine, Jeff Black, Harley Allen, The Beatles, and of course Mark Elliott.{my biggest influence!}
Small towns are known for spilling their secrets and Kingston Springs, Tennessee can’t keep its native son a secret much longer. Daniel Baker has a voice that cannot be denied.
His musical influences are as diverse as his grandparent’s collection of LP’s and eight tracks. He grew up inspired by the lyrics of the great 70’s singer-songwriters like Gordon Lightfoot and Jim Croce, but stirred by a kinship with the down to earth, blue collar sounds of Merle Haggard and Keith Whitley.
To know Daniel’s broad base of musical influences is only the beginning to understanding his voice. For his age, he has had more than his share of stark truths, unforgiving turns and hard life lessons. Maybe that’s the puzzle piece that helps answer the question; “how can that voice be coming out of that kid”?
With veteran phrasing and an eerie ability to “sell” a song, Daniel’s voice is a striking contrast to his youthful, innocent look. Like water from another time, it is deep, rich and moving.
