During the last five years, Daniel Balthasar has become one of the most known songwriters in Luxembourg. His 2003 debut Fingerprints had an incredible total of 122 weeks of airplay and opened up the doors for his 2005 international release Outlines, which was published in 6 countries.
In 2005, the songwriter performs at the Popkomm in Berlin. One year later, Daniel Balthasar and his band are the first Luxembourgian band ever to be invited to the South-by-Southwest Festival in Austin/Texas, the largest alternative music festival in the United States. He shares the stage with dEUS and the Girls in Hawaii. In 2007, Daniel Balthasar will perform as supporting act for Reamonn and Razorlight.
The 2008 German publication Indie Travel Guide by Manuel Schreiner describes the songwriter as the most important alternative musician of the country and puts him internationally on the same level as Maximo Park and Snow Patrol.
Daniel Balthasar’s 3rd album Palpitations is released in December 2008 and marks a turning point for the songwriter. Up to now, Palpitations is the most sophisticated album of the artist. Recorded in Germany and Luxembourg by Sam Wirtz, mixed in the Netherlands by Werner Pensaert (K’s Choice, Hooverphonic, U2...) and finally mastered in Belgium, Palpitations is a musical journey that took almost 3 years to realize. Pushed by a dynamic band, the songs and the sound of Daniel Balthasar have evolved into a more organic and driving direction. Palpitations unites 12 new songs that will linger in the listeners head long after the music faded.
As a solo-artist, Daniel is joined by his band, that some may call "The Blue Clusters". The members of the band are James Gierens (guitars and vocals), Gilles Loes (Bass), Michel Mootz (drums) and Emmanuelle Seiwerath (cello and keyboards).
As a side project, Daniel writes experimental pseudo-electronic music for the video-installations and short-movies of the artist Véronique Kolber. Three videos and three short-movies are so far the result of this collaboration.
Finally, Daniel is guitarist of the alternative band Blue Room. He collaborated with bandleader Jim Brimeyer on two of his albums. The members of Blue Room are Jim Brimeyer (Band-leader, guitars and vocals), Daniel Balthasar (guitars and vocals), Jean-Claude Birkel (Bass) and Michel Mootz (drums).
