"A classic, layered pop sound with a hint of emotion and wistfulness about it.Think Damon Albarn (Blur) fronting the beach boys"

"It is music of substance and emotion, at once nostalgic and fresh"

Daniel Dawes performed in various bands throughout the later part of the 1990’s while at university, and in 2001 became a founding member of Sydney based psych-rock outfit The Winters, a band for whom he put in almost seven years of loyal service as songwriter, vocalist and guitarist.
Dawes’ strong vision for his music led him to branch out from the safety of The Winters and in late 2006 and early 2007 he tested the water with a string of solo shows, a move that led to the assembly of a band comprising likeminded members of various Sydney groups and the recording of a debut album “Strange Things”, due for release in February 2009.
When attempting to describe the “Daniel Dawes sound” it would be difficult to miss the influence of early Brit Pop, with a hint of The Beatles, The Kinks, and The Who in evidence along with a flavor of the more modern exponents of this genre. Richard Kingsmill noted of Dawes’ music that it has “a real '60s English vibe about it. A little of Tim Rogers in the singer's style” (Triple J, 11/06).
Over the years reviewers of Dawes’ music have commented that “It is music of substance and emotion, at once nostalgic and fresh” (Clem Bastow, Inpress Magazine 2/2/04). The Drum Media’s Mark Neilson remarked that “There is a classic, layered pop sound with a hint of emotion and wistfulness about it. Think Damon Albarn (Blur, Good the Bad and the Queen) fronting the beach boys” (Drum Media 9/5/06).
Daniel Dawes’ debut album “Strange Things” is available now in stores and via iTunes through Foghorn Records.
