Interests

  • General

    Suite101

All kinds of writing - creative, technical, legal, business, fiction, non-fiction, and much more. Beyond writing: hiking, boating, camping, and just about anything in the great outdoors. Also, I like to watch classic films and B-rated movies (particularly via Mystery Science Theater 3000).

White nectarines, fettucini alfredo, and Breyer's Mint Chip ice cream are a few of my favorite foods. I love all foods Italian. I like sushi, but I won't touch Spam.

Archaeology always fascinated me; as does the study of ancient cultures. Maybe that's why I'm a total Indiana Jones fan. I like PBS programming, and rarely miss The McLaughlin Group ("the Washington original").

Oh, and I'm an avowed foodie who watches shows like Food Trip with Todd English on WGBH/PBS. I like trying strange new foods that sound disgusting, but may in fact end up being tasty. For example in some African countries, they eat fried termites. But chilled monkey brains like in that famous Indiana Jones scene - I may draw the line there.

Weird fact: the sun makes me sneeze. Another weird fact: my Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator (MBPTI) is INFJ, the rarest of all the personality types.

  • Music

Like: world/ethnic music, classical, guitar, instrumental, jazz, ambient, folk, classic rock, Christian, blues, and the more "cultural" type beats. Cheesy 80's music: did we REALLY listen to that stuff??

Novice keyboard, 12-string guitar player (I can sit at a synth for hours and go through all the sounds). Played clarinet in grade school but couldn't cover the holes, which caused squeaking.

  • Movies

Many come to mind: Breach, The Manchurian Candidate (old and new versions both great), Secret Life of Bees, Back to the Future, Radio, The Constant Gardener, Rear Window, Pay It Forward, Meet the Robinsons, Mr. Destiny, A Crude Awakening, Cat Ballou, Who Killed the Electric Car, To Kill a Mockingbird, Gaslight, Lord of the Rings, Indiana Jones, Sneakers, Pale Rider, Can't Buy Me Love (cheesy but good 80s film), Desk Set, Artificial Intelligence: AI, That Darn Cat, Twister, Rudy, The Tenth Kingdom, All the President's Men, Star Wars, Dave, JFK, I Am Sam, Joseph, Pink Panther, Casablanca, The Cheap Detective, Murder by Death, Capote, True Grit, Pearl Harbor, Good Night and Good Luck, Into the West, Dick Tracy, and many more.

Favorite director: Clint Eastwood, Stephen Spielberg, Oliver Stone, Alfred Hitchcock, Peter Jackson. Favorite actors/actresses: Denzel Washington, Clint Eastwood, Dakota Fanning, Jim Caveziel, Dustin Hoffman, Cuba Gooding, Jr., George Clooney, Grace Kelly, Robert Redford, John Wayne, James Stewart, Liev Schreiber, Spencer Tracy, Mary Steenburgen, Harrison Ford, Cary Grant, Steve Martin, Tommy Lee Jones, Ben Kingsley, Martin Short, Ingrid Bergman, Dean Martin, Robin Williams, Nicole Kidman, Ben Affleck, Jane Fonda, Kate Beckensale, Rachael Leigh Cook, Matt Damon, James Dean. Favorite composers: John Williams, Howard Shore.

  • Television

PBS NOVA/National Geographic, Rick Steves Travel, The Office, Food Trip with Todd English, McGlaughlin Group, Seinfeld, This Old House, Keeping Up Appearances. And for an occasional foray into mindlessness, Wacked Out Videos.

  • Books

Your World, Your Future, & Bible Prophecy |"I highly recommend this book which is why I am giving it the full five stars, it is a can't-put-down must-read that blows me away more than any other book I've read on the subject."
    -Amazon.com review by Disco Bookworm

Rapture Redux |"The early church had Martin Luther, today we have Daniel Gansle."
