   About The Daniel James Gang

Go here for our official website, or to buy our hot new single.

The Daniel James Gang are a powerpop-ish punk band from Milwaukee and are fronted by ex-Chinese Telephones lead guitarist Daniel James. They have so far released one 7” single, with another in the works and have done one abbreviated US tour.

The group started with some four track demos that Daniel made while still in Chinese Telephones. He quickly recruited Dave Volume who had previously played with him in the Nikki Sudden group to play drums. They played some shows with various bass players and rhythm guitarists before solidifying the lineup with bassist John Johnson VI from TruthDealer.

This lineup recorded the In This City 7” single for Affiliated Publishing Situation and did a short East Coast / Midwest tour in the Spring of 2009. Shortly after John left the group to focus on Truthdealer and film production. Daniel and David are currently working on a followup single and hope to do a full US tour with a new lineup in 2010.

We should definitely set up some shows somewhere.  Here or there.  Either's cool.  Either way a good time will be had by everybody that's having a good time, which should be everybody.  Let's do it.

oh man so much idiocy came out of (the people who were in) the indie-rock 80's...i believe the first time i ever heard or saw the phrase "butt rock" might have been in a late 80's FLIPSIDE (column)....pffffffsfsfshfltthjt.  YOU CAN'T RENAME A GENRE THAT ALREADY HAS AN OFFICIAL NAME!  good lord you nimrods.  it's "commercial hard rock" circa late 70's-early 80's.  and that includes everything from Loverboy to Night Ranger to ha, BILLY SQUIER etc.  that's what the radio mags/Billboard/etc called it.  and bands pre-1979 that weren't "heavy metal"?  HARD ROCK.   Skynyrd, Boston, Kiss and Aerosmith, Foghat.  although Boston and the mid-70's Steve Miller Band were probably just as often called just "rock."  listen up morons!  "cock rock" never caught on, so butt rock forgetit.  and anyone who doesn't think Loverboy's 5 best cuts (including first lp new wave-y "Little Girl" and 2nd lp "Jump") rock just like anything else that ever called "rock," YOU ARE DEAF.   oh man and don't even get me going on John Cougar.   Coug will be playing his 15 hits from the 80's at state fairgrounds (with john fogerty, or with bob dylan at baseball parks like last year) long after the dumb indie "rock bands" of the late 80's have been forgotten for 20 year. oh wait.  they already have!  i hated that shit, boneheads hammering a A chord, D chord, A chord, G chord, etc to nowhere, and thinking they were "rocking." 9we saw plenty of them opening up 2nd or 3rd to our band during 1987-1991 all over california).  dude you don't even have a riff!  oh well in a decade of heavy metal shit it probably wasn't any worse than the average Motley Crue album.  but you're still not "rocking" 1/10th as much as Loverboy's good/best songs so just shove the butt fucking rock up your idiot asshole.

jesus duh, yeah any guitar player knows that Wishbone Ash had chops.  and were concurrent with the Allman Bros/america as the first serious twin-lead guitar bands.  i mean a good Flying V played well, come fucking on!  LYNYRD FUCKING SKYNYRD (great reverse-Firebird sound, same idea)!  great bands have great axes!  (and even some of the 3rd rate bands like W/A).

(on the other hand i have no idea what a 5th rate band like Spooky Toothwere plugging in onstage during 1969-70).  (Ian Hunter:  "ok, to punk Mick Ralphs out for bailing on us, who's the shittiest guitar player in all of the UK we could get to replace him?  on the cheap, so we could split more money 4 ways?"  Buffin the village idiot/malcontent/bad-vibes-king:  "that dork in Spooky Tooth!  he'll play for chicks and drugs!"  yeah some great thinking there, guys, who needs a guitar player who can come up with occasional great riffs.  (even ones your lame band can't execute:  One Of The Boys becoming Can't Get Enough, etc)

hmmmm we're engaged in some curious U-36 alternate universe anectodes
involving -- best of all, symbolically and w/nekked bodies involved --
the '76 KISS ALIVE crew

http://viewmorepics.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=viewImage&friendID=192503&imageID=65361207

and it just crossed mymind that you might have intelligent Destroyer vs
Kiss Alive comments to deflect the endless Marcia Barfed On My
Shoes/Car/Stereo/Herself stories zzzzzzzzzzz.  (we hated the album and
still do -- the "45 edit" of Detroit Rock City" is how the whole damn
album should have sounded!  terrible fucking echo-ey mix on the whole
goddamn album.  which only has like 1 great songs and 2 really good
songs anyway, and fuck me if i can remember what the 2 really good ones
are.  (Nighttime World?  Do You Love Me?  both rendered fangless by the
lame mix/echo/bob ezrin/etc).

actually...the option on your midewestern end that is foolproof.  (when we play 7 midwest gigs late sept 2010 -- i'm asking everyone back there, if you could PICK the exact week you were going to play 9 days/7 gigs straddling TWO weekends, which Fri on the calendar would you start?  (for the most ideal between summer/fall weather)  Fri Sept 17-Sat sept 25?   or Fri sept 24 - Sat Oct 2?   or get really brave with the "could be colder" (calif slackers like the temp to be between 62 and 75 on all gig days...we pretty muchnailed it dead on, on the 5 gig/6 day east coast trip sept 9th-sept 16th) risk , Fri Oct 1- Sat Oct 9th?

anyway so when we play cincinatti/columbus/cleveland, (day off), Detroit, (day off), lafayette/chicago/milwaukee -- there'll be two guitar amps up/borrowed even though i don't plya a lot of guitar.  so there's a wide open amp (stage right) for any fine young fellow to get up and start playing (my guitar, or just one they walk on with) during the dance contest's 4 song segment (that i'm back on drums) , tequilla/You Stupid Asshole/ I'm A Pig / Slave To My Dick), and if they like the setup/acoustics, just keep playing into the "punk rock vol. 2" segment of the set, steak knife/lights out/you stupid jerk/homo sexual / carson girls / inside my brain / time has come today / haizman's brain is callling / ballad of jerry curlan / they saved hitler's cock etc

all just for the chicks and fame you dig.  or maybe you and/or Norb might scheme to be the "opening band" on the 7 gigs (a cover band is peffectly acceptable as long as the equpiment is good) in case something flakes out and the Bum City Saints   (first cool "hardcore" band from Calif in 20+ years?  actually make that 25+ since bad religion started far earlier, and that only if you count Suffer as better than a 1-song album) can't do a tour hooking up with us for our galactic intner

hell maybe Norb wants to drum on Slave To My Dick for free.
