Daniel Rosenthal is a Boston based trumpet player, currently attending the Alexander Technique Training Center in Newton. He recently earned his M.M. and B.M. from the New England Conservatory, where he studied with BSO principal trumpeter, Charles Schlueter, and jazz icons Steve Lacy and Bob Brookmeyer. He leads his own quartet and is a member of the Grammy nominated jazz ensemble, the Either/Orchestra. He also performs with his father, singer/songwriter Phil Rosenthal, a former member of the grammy-award winning bluegrass band, the Seldom Scene. In addition to performing, Daniel also teaches trumpet at Milton High School, Lexington High School, as well as privately in Newton and Brookline. He teaches Alexander Technique in Jamaica Plain.

Daniel has performed with Eithiopian music legends, Mulatu Atstatke, Mahmoud Ahmed, Getachew Mekurya, and Alemayehu Eshete. He has also shared the stage with jazz musicians Steve Lacy, Anthony Braxton, Joe Morris, Allan Chase, Bob Brookmeyer, George Garzone, Roscoe Mitchell, Ben Monder, Charlie Kohlhase, Yoron Israel, Jason Palmer, Ted Poor, Nate McBride, Matt Moran, Bob Moses, Mark Whitfield and many others.

Rosenthal's trumpet playing can heard on over a dozen recordings, including most recently, A Treasury of Bluegrass and Country Songs by Phil Rosenthal ('09) Gentle as the Sun by Naomi Sommers ('09), Futile Serenade by Colin Stack ('09), Tiny Orchestra by Johannes Bauer (2008), as well as a soon to be released cds by the Either/Orchestra, Paolo Latanzi (featuring Robin Eubanks) and an eight hour, fifty-piece recording led by Anthony Braxton. Rosenthal's debut recording as a leader will be released in 2010.
