| | Sounds Like | The chance meeting of two strangers at Espy’s Bar in Dover, Ohio, gave birth to a friendship that has lasted these many years. They began getting together at each other’s houses to share conversation and their love of acoustical music. They had no plans to perform in public. Their fortune was about to change when one afternoon, after purchasing a guitar from a local music store, they went (guitar in hand) to a bar for a drink. They spent that afternoon, after some coaxing from the bar patrons, passing the guitar back and forth, singing alone and/or together. Although they did not get paid for that afternoon’s performance, it is rumored that their glasses did not go empty! From this impromptu performance at Der Stein Haus, Daniels and Rinehart was born. Daniels and Rinehart is a contemporary acoustic duo that plays a wide variety of well-known favorites that appeal to the most diverse and discriminating listeners. Their music is influenced by the honest and passionate early folk artists, mixed with the contemporary storytelling flair of Harry Chapin, and the energy of Jimmy Buffett and Van Morrison. They entertain their audiences with their unique percussive and melodic guitar styles and blending vocal harmonies. The foundation of a Daniels and Rinehart performance is best described by the words of singer-songwriter David Wilcox, “An evening of music is a chance to peek around the walls that keep us all feeling like strangers.” Anyone who has heard Tom and Terry has had a chance to “peek around those walls,” to seen themselves and others not as isolated individuals, but as important parts of something much bigger. Through the years they have continued to explore other musical avenues, but have found they always return to their acoustical roots. They, along with well-known area musician Rick Michel, also perform throughout the year as The Harp Brothers, an Irish Band with an American flavor. The Harp Brothers performances are fun-filled with Irish songs, sing-a-longs, bad jokes, and green beer! Daniels and Rinehart have each performed with numerous local bands, and sang with/for Harry Chapin, Michael Martin Murphy, Alex Bevan, Mike "Mad Dog" Adams, and former Vice President Dan Quayle. They have played festivals, benefits, bars, restaurants, private parties, and once even opened for the Chicago Knockers, a female mud-wrestling show.
Daniels and Rinehart say they are continuing to play the music that they love, the music Harry Chapin sang about when he wrote the words, “Remember when the music, came from wooden boxes strung with silver wire?” Tom and Terry conclude by saying, “We’re just two good friends that enjoy making music together and having a ball with it!", "Check us out!” Drop by sometime for an evening of song, story, and laughter. Take a chance…peek around those walls….
