Deej's Interests
|
| General | Current interests are self preservation and focusing on critical success factors in able to propagate my economic growth while facilitating school, fitness, social activities, and travel. And to quote my friend J...In the game of life, fame and fortune don't score any points, you just have to have more fun than everybody else. Cheers | | Music | Running down the ipod... start with Kenny Chesney, Allman Brothers, Ben Harper (only a couple), Big & Rich, Black Crowes, Dave Matthews, of course Jack Johnson (name a surfer that doesn't), Jimmy Buffett (see previous), John Mayer, Montgomery Gentry, OAR, Pearl Jam, Tim McGraw, Van Morrison, ZZ Top, Alan Jackson, Animistic (Local band in Hermosa Beach), BB King, Beastie Boys, some Billy Joel, Blink-182, Bob (if you don't know which Bob, you can stop reading now...), Jimi (again see previous), Brad Paisley, CCR,Charlie Daniels, Clapton, Greateful Dead, The Jay-Z Linkin Park "Collision Course" cd, Johnny Cash, Joss Stone, (my Hawiian favorite) Ka'au Crater Boys, Keb' Mo', Led Zeppelin, Louis Armstrong, Marvin Gaye, Mac McAnally (if anyone can identify one of his first 3 albums, I love you), Norah Jones, Offspring, Out of Eden, (I'm getting tired of typing).. Sublime, STP, Stevie Ray Vaughan, can't forget Toby Keith and that's all for now... there's more but you get the point.
| | Movies | Siestas & Olas, September Sessions, Step into Liquid, Fast Times at Ridgemont High, Old School, Tommy Boy, Anchorman, Caddyshack, Big Lebowski, Grumpy and Grumpier Old Men, Tombstone, Gross Point Blank, Gunshy, Back to School, Van Wilder, Pure Country
| | Television | Lately I've been watching Emril, BAM! Love that guy. I don't enjoy watch too much TV, during the day if working at home, it's on CNBC or CMT. Like most men, I like sports, but in moderation. Honestly, I'd rather be outside throwing or playing football, than sitting inside watching. On Saturdays or Sundays during football season, I'm good for maybe one game. Then I'm over it; time to do something with the day. I will say this however; during the summer in Yuma it's bloody hot, I watched more TV in the past summer than the past 3-5 years combined. I'm glad the heat is finally over! | | Books | Right now I'm reading "A LONG WAY GONE, MEMOIRS OF A BOY SOLDIER" by Ishmael Beah. It's about his life being kidnapped and forced to become a soldier in one of the may wars currently going on in Africa. "It's Not About Me" by Max Lucado, "Purpose Driven Life" Rick Warren, "A Salty Piece of Land" by Jimmy Buffet Currently reading: "A Pirate Looks at Fifty" Jimmy Buffet's autobiography and "The Big Drop" which is a compilation of short stories about big wave riding. | | Heroes | Pretty hard not to name Christ here... but of those not the devine son of God; I admire self made people and those that have overcome hardship beyond what most people endure. And honestly, my heroes are those that get paid for doing what they love. It's a simple thing, but only a very few blessed people love what they do for a living. I yearn to be one of those lovely people. |

About me:
As you'll read below, still need to start a blog. Here will be my first entry...............Our world has distorted and institutionalized the idea of religion. James 1:27 states Pure and lasting religion says our Lord is caring for orphans and widows in there distress and not allowing the world to corrupt us. I imagine many people hearing that definition of religion would agree it’s good. Religion is very good. In fact, I wish I was more religious.............Galatians 5:22 Says fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control; against such things there is no law.....................So many people will take a random verse and use it to justify certain behavior or action. However scripture backs up scripture and if you take the entire book as a whole, you will find certain threads that run throughout the entire thing. We have to take those threads and wrap them around out hearts. We have to take those threads and make garment to wrap around out minds and bodies. We use these threads to create the armor of God. Ephesians 6 states the full armor of God, the belt of truth, breastplate of righteousness, shoes to proclaim the gospel of peace, the shield of faith, with which we can quench ALL the flaming arrows of the enemy, the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. We must use this armor because we fight a war not against flesh and blood but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers of this present darkness, and against the spiritual forces of the evil one..............................Look at not at distant history but at what’s going on right now in northern Uganda. One man, Joseph Koney is single handedly responsible for the deaths of hundreds of thousands. What sort of evil makes him and his army force children at gunpoint to kill farmers with their own hand tools?.........................The Bible does not have one single example of Jesus picketing an abortion clinic. God never stood on a street corner and screamed at people or held up a sign that said they were going to hell. The example of God’s son and the example for us is to love. Jesus loved people. He spent time with the social outcasts. He spent time with the broken hearted. He spent time listening and teaching people how to love one another. In fact, that’s our second greatest command according to Luke 10:27, to love our neighbor as our self. What would the world look like if we tried to do that even a little bit? I love me. That’s something I have to admit, I love me. But I’m trying to love my neighbor. It’s not easy and I don’t pretend to do it all the time, but it is getting easier. It is ingraining itself more in my life. Like staining a piece of wood; the more stain you add, the richer or deeper the color becomes and the deeper the stain penetrates the wood. The more it becomes permanent in the wood.................Fruit of the Spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control............................About me... June 19th... I need to start a blog I know but here's what's new. I just returned from Africa and the trip was AMAZING!!! The Holy Spirit is working in Gulu Uganda and lives are changing. I'm forever changed and already praying I can go back. We took over 4300 pictures and I'm waiting to get them from one of our teammates. They will be on here SOON. Please keep me in your prayers as I'm leaving again this Saturday for the Dominican Republic. Much love,
Deej.........
