There is no use in denying it: at the Danish Folk Council we love folk & roots music. We can't get enough of it; it's the reason behind our existence, and the reason why you've found us on MySpace. We want to expand our knowledge of folk & roots music around the world, and we want to let you know that Danish folk & roots music really has something to offer.
On that account we introduce every month a new artist or band established, or establishing him-, her- or themselves on the Danish folk & roots scene – listen to the music, and check out the blog!
What we do outside of MySpace:
On top of the to do list - we support the development of Danish folk and roots music, and we promote it inside as well as outside the borders of Denmark. In this process we proudly present:
Folk and Roots Music from Denmark, a promotion CD we assemble once a year presenting a collection of songs from a broad range of Danish folk & roots albums released within the past year (for more info, see our webpage www.folkemusik.dk – English version available). The 2009 edition is a double album, and it has been distributed to organizers and media all around the world.
Roots Zone, www.rootszone.dk (in Danish) is our web magazine featuring articles, reviews, and other info related to the folk and roots scene in and outside of Denmark.
Furthermore, we are in charge of coordinating the annual event Danish Music Awards – Folk, which takes place in Tønder in the early Spring - nominations and awards can be seen on our website; we administer transport support for Danish musicians touring or playing concerts abroad; we serve as a distribution point for a number of Danish releases; and we act as coordinator and publiciser for the activities of the national folk music organisations.

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...
Poem 162 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse (please see my blog): TEES TO TYNE: FIRST IMPRESSIONS - SUMMER 2001
Where traditions are not so rare; Sea, country and works scent the air; A multitude of monuments, Planted tubs and patterned pavements.
The longish pedestrian malls; The remnants of defensive walls; Historic buildings are a gauge Of the respect for heritage.
Wheat, rape and pines in the fields; Estuaries guarded by shields; Long sandy beaches and wide scenes; Romantic-ruin go-betweens.
Rivers in parts licked by trees, Or fringed by boat clubs, wharfs, gantries, And crossed by practical delights - Varied spans, forming pleasing sights.
Fine churches headed at Durham; Football kits ad infinitum; Kept castles - one for study; Masonry behind masonry.
And, with moulding-works out that way, It’s somewhere for a longer stay..?
