"Drunk on election night" Starring Dan O Kelly & the Alpha Males
| Dir: Rachael Hough/Lucy Dyson | Animation: Lucy Dyson|Producers:Lucy Dyson, Rachael Hough & Virginia Kay
Hello people! I'm Dan Kelly and my job is to think of stuff and sing about it to you all! I have made two records and two e.p.s so far, both with a band (Dan Kelly and The Alpha Males) and solo. They are quite good! I have been nominated for 5 ARIA awards in Australia over the last three years and received some lovely reviews (and the odd half-arsed one which we will ignore for the sake of self promotion). The last album with the Alpha Males 'Drowning in the Fountain of Youth' won the Inpress Album of the year in 2006 and was also nominated for the 2006 JJJ award for Album of the year.My shows often have girls with glasses in the front writing stuff down in notebooks. How great is that!
I have been working on a new record called 'The Decommissioner', a kind of an instruction booklet on how to cope with the end of the world and still keep smiling.
It's been a a while since the last record I know I know but I had to go out and live a little bit.
Not any more, i just wake up every day, put on Fela Kuti on my itunes, Bryan Ferry on my tape recorder, Santo and Johnny on the record player and the Kinks on my ipod then try and play along to all at the same time on my heavily delayed Japanese Jaguar while my secretary takes notes and makes me fiber heavy vegan treats.
Then i go and beg on the streets of footscray for change to buy internet connection.
It's a sweet life really but i know it can't last.
If you want me to play at your venue please contact Brett Murrihy at the Harbour Agency in Sydney. His email is brettm@theharbouragency.com. He's an all round top bloke. Tough but fair.
love to you all. Dan Kelly
It's an album! Do you own it? Yes? You're very lucky! No? Oh Dear, you're totally missing out. Better order one now though It's really cheap, considering it took us 134,278 hours to make!
And for the completist, these other Dan Kelly and the Alpha Males titles are also stunning value and a riveting listen:
I've been writing some rad songs for our new band, pre-minstrel. my new heroic poem accompanied by psaltery and hurdy-gurdy has triple J hottest 100 written all over it!
Hi Dan, What an eventful start to what would be a fabulous evening with the heavens opening up & the torrential rain that flooded the streets of Sydney. That evening you brought some Melbourne magic with you to The Basement gig last Friday. Always charismatic, tongue in cheek, twinkle in the eye & sweet high voice alongside the dynamic duo that is the Ukeladies. Have a lovely Xmas & New Year. Rougie xx
Hiya Dan!! Thanks for the add & for supporting my music!! So happy to be your friend - LOVE your tunes....great stuff....serious talent. I hope your week is fabulous & hopefully where you are, there is sunshine!! Kylie xx
You have girls writing in notebooks at your shows? yay! I had a girl knitting at my gig last night, next to a girl with a notepad, but neither wore glasses...hmmm...
Hey, thanks for the awesome show last night. You had me laughing through the whole thing! And yes, I'll admit to being a glasses-wearing note-taking front row girl :P
Good-oh, you're making it to Perth this time! Hope this is the start of a new trend? One involving more shows in cat-friendly venues? You can even bring Augie March, even though they're a bunch of accountants.
Dan the heart breaking man Kelly, So what have you got in store for us Sydneysiders on Friday 14th November? I am looking forward to hearing the new album and await with baited breath. "Take care please, take care, if this sounds a bit like goodbye in a way it is...I guess as I leave your side". Big Star, Sister Lovers. Sigh!! What beautiful lyrics. Ciao for now. xx
Dear Dan, please sing us some songs at that high st northcote gypsy place, whilst they still have mulled wine on the camping cooker. Carn. It's nearly summer. Play for us a long overdue set to warm us into spring! x
