Any questions, or if you need more details, do drop me a line....
Dan Melrose is a musician based in Manchester. He writes, records and performs original material that, if it had to be pigeonholed, would be called folk.
“Blending the romance of folk music with the grim realities of the blues… create(s) a sound that balances the traditional with modern life.”
– Chris Long, BBC Great Unheard.
When performing and recording, Dan has a wealth of peers with whom to play. The core of his band consists of double bass, cello and violin, who come along and perform at the larger gigs. The full band gigs have previously gone under the band name “The Green Tree Riot,” AKA, "The Urban Folk Collective," though more recently, the decision was made to axe the name and continue to perform billed as a solo artist, despite the larger line-up being the same and consisting of some of the original material:
"Well as it's Sunday, I was under the illusion I was writing about a chilled out folk band. With the use of acoustic guitars, harmonica, double bass, fiddle and washboard I expected a sombre relaxing piece of music. What The Green Tree Riot delivered was a gutsy, raw and powerful mixture of Irish influenced blues. Singer Dan Melrose's voice is razor sharp and he sings with a twinge of Americana in there too. On track Blood And Rust Blues, the song begins as if two cowboys are taking 5 paces ready to draw their pistols in a shootout. When Melrose hits the first roar, it's their signal to shoot their barrels clean."
Yo, how's it going? Sorry I didn't return your call last night, I've got no credit and ZERO money. Looking forward to tonight? I shall see you later on :)

Solid Earth and what? the folk present: beats, roots and leaves, an eight hour charity session of musical goodness at Manchester’s best pub in nearly the countryside: Jackson’s Boat in Sale Water Park. All proceeds to MSF in Darfur.
Aidan Smith and his Indulgent Friends play at The Art of Tea in Didsbury. A new album, Allotments, is due out soon and advance copies will be available at the show.
Also playing are Brighton's The Miserable Rich, returning to Manchester just two weeks after their great show at Hedge for a more intimate set in this wonderful cafe. And this time they'll have vinyl copies of their debut single, Pisshead/Boat Song...

I'd definately be up for trying to get something together for the Octopus night. When are you free this week? I have a gig tonight, but other than that, I'm free most nights.
The Legendary Peter Walker with support from John Fairhurst and Olivia Moore-25th April, St Margarets Church, Whalley Range
If there is one not to miss this year its this! Finally touring again after nearly 40 years of quietly working damn hard on his playing, Peter Walker comes to Hedge at St Margarets Church. Truly a Godfather psyche raga flamenco and folk. He studied with Ravi Shankar and Ali Akhbar Khan, travelled to Franco era Spain to study flamenco and jam with the gypsies and was at the heart of the San Fran acoustic scene. Don’t for a minute let your mind wander to the watered down come-backs of some of his contemporaries, Peter has just matured and improved, concentrating hard on his passion for flamenco. A rare opportunity this is, to encounter a player of Peters influence and excellence.
Supporting Peter are two local musicians, descendants in a musical family tree.
John Fairhurst has travelled extensively with his guitar, playing everywhere and anywhere with allsorts of people. A heavy Raga influence, with elements of gypsy jazz, a big spoonful of blues and psyche folk. www. myspace. com/johnfairhurst
Olivia Moore, a truly gifted violinist, has herself travelled to India on numerous occasions to study. After many years playing classical violin, she delved into the worlds of jazz, flamenco, Cuban music and improvisation. Awesome! www. myspace. com/oliviolin
Hey man. I went to to watch Curtis Eller at 'LAWM' on thursday and you supported, you were really great. I personally can't get my head round why you are not massively bigger in the music buisness. You have my respect man.

hi everyone, here's our line up for the next month at the deaf institute... and i can assure you every night is full of bloody great bands and the best leftfield dj's! we're totally happy for any of our friends to get as many people as they like on the £3.00 guestlist every week so tell your friends and keep'em coming. if you haven't been yet the venue itself is wprth popping your head in.. truly beautiful! we can also sort anyone out with free entry if you can help us do a little promo about the nights. it's tricky being based in london and trying to do a weekly up north so if anyone wants to get involved getting this amazing night off the ground and spreading the word about exceptional new bands then just give us a shout.. hope to see y'all soon.. x
