"Dan Montgomery's ability to spot people you'd never notice and turn them into characters you can't resist is uncanny." Shaun Dale - Cosmik Debris

Dan Montgomery returns with the follow up to his acclaimed debut solo CD Man From Out Of State with his newest offering: Rosetta, please (a love story). A nine song story of two people. One fresh out of jail. One walking the streets, working the streets. What tears them apart? What keeps them together? Rosetta has already been mentioned by noted music journalist Andria Lisle (Mojo, Oxford American Journal) as one of the records to look out for in 2006.

Musically, the golden age of American Studios was the template aspired to; big bold rocking songs, soul ballads with electric sitars, heartwrenching love songs. This wide sonic pallet is unified by the storyline that runs through the entire record.

Recorded at several of the best studios in Memphis, TN ( Electrophonic, Memphis Soundworks, and Young Ave. Sound) with Scott Bomar (Hustle and Flow, Bo Keys) and Kevin Cubbins (Snowglobe, Cory Branan) behind the board. Rosetta features Dans road band The Professional Badasses (Mike Vesey Steel Guitar, Baritone Guitar, Mandolin, Electric Sitar, Maggie Vesey Bass and Jason Hatcher Drums, in addition to Dan on Acoustic Guitar, Piano, Harp and Vocals) plus some of the finest auxiliary players in Memphis(Roy Brewer Violin, Jonathan Kirkscey Cello, Kim Richardson Harmonies and Marc Franklin Keyboards).

The album was mixed in Venice, CA at Sonic Workshop Studios by Ethan Allen (Joe Henry, Daniel Lanois, Luscious Jackson) along with additional harmonies by Grammy nominated singer Peter Case(Plimsoles) and percussion by Kevin Jarvis(Grant Lee Phillips, John Doe) plus Duane Jarvis(Lucinda Williams) on Mandolin. All great players as well as great people. All helping to make a Great Record.

No stranger to roadwork ,this April Dan & his band will embark on an East Coast tour to present Rosetta in a live setting. Dates already include venues in New York, Phila, New Jersey & MD, with more to be added.

Just some of the many venues Dan has played include:

The Tin Angel (Phila, PA), The Folk Music Center (Claremont, CA) both to sold out crowds CBGBs (NY, NY), Maxwells (Hoboken, NJ). Lakeside Lounge(NY, NY)Fletchers(Baltimore, MD), Mercy Lounge(Nashville, TN), The Camp(Cape Girardeau, MO), Last Concert Caf (Houston, TX), Artmosphere (Lafayette, LA)WC Dons(Jackson, MS),The Camp(Cape Girardeau,MO),Wonder Valley Music Festival(Twenty Nine Palms, CA), Joshua Tree Music Festival(Joshua Tree, CA),The HiTone Cafe(Memphis, TN), Poor Davids Pub(Dallas, TX), Hole In The Wall(Austin, TX),Blue Marlin(Corpus Christi. TX) The Cinema Bar (Los Angeles, CA), Coles (Hollywood, CA) The Fire (Phila, PA), Young Ave. Deli (Memphis, TN ),Hal & Mals(Jackson, MS) North Star Bar (Phila, PA, )Sweetwater(Nashville, TN.),The Saint (Asbury Park, NJ),Five Spot (Nashville, TN), Center for Southern Folklore (Memphis, TN.), Full Moon Saloon(Baltimore, MD.),Sully's Tavern(Shreveport, LA) among many, many more. ~~~~~~~~

WOW, what a great show! The sound was amazing, even if You did have to compete with the other noise! Enjoyed the show, and Your kindness was unmatched. I will count myself lucky for the crowd being so small, because had it been bigger, i might not have had the pleasure of meeting You! Thanks again for everything.
What a class act!

Hope all's well!

Thought I'd let you know that for the past 3 months I've been working at the Folk Art Museum in New York. Every Friday night they have free nights with live music. I've made friends with one of the directors and mentioned that I knew a kick ass band from Memphis who would shake down the house. They said they are interested!

Let me know in advance if you're planning a trip up here & if you would want to play music in a museum dedicated to folk art!

See, that's where you were supposed to jump on the same train (westbound, unlike most song lyrics which are "southbound") with your management cohort Braden like hobos and then you would come to L.A. too and we would have a reunion and buy you energy drinks without guarana or guano. Alas, it looks like you're stuck inside of Memphis with the folk alliance conference again. Raincheck for you, hobo.
