So many books, so little space! As a born and bred southern girl, I love southern writers: Eudora Welty, Josephine Humphreys, Harper Lee, Kaye Gibbons, Reynolds Price. Some fave YA authors in random order: Rachel Cohn, April Lurie, Cynthia Leitich Smith, John Green, Sarah Dessen, Frances Dowell, Helen Hemphill, Kimberly Willis Holt.

My husband. My parents. Harper Lee. Because of her wonderful novel, I wanted to become a writer.
About me: I am the author of twelve novels, most recently DEFYING THE DIVA, SEMIPRECIOUS (A New York Public Library 2007 Book for the Teen Age) and PICTURE PERFECT ( all published at Simon and Schuster) In addition to writing novels for teens, I spend a lot of time coaching other writers and traveling to literature festivals, book fairs, and other book- related events.
I'm totally into hiking, music, and seeing the world. So far, I've been to New Zealand, Tahiti(very briefly), Bermuda,Hawaii, the Caribbean and the San Blas Islands. Closer to home, I hang out on Kiawah Island, near Charleston, SC. Besides having an awesome beach, Kiawah teems with wildlife--dolphins, turtles, birds, and alligators. It's my favorite place on Planet Earth.
My immediate family consists of one husband and one golden retriever, but my extended fam includes my mom and a slew of siblings, aunts, uncles, cousins, etc.
Loves: Books. Chocolate, Caribou coffee, going to concerts, playing with the dog, hanging out with my hubby. Books. Sunny days. Any day at the beach. Talking on the phone with my BFF. Did I mention books???
Hates: Getting up early. Shoveling snow. Rude people. Telemarketing phone calls. (Thank goodness for caller ID!!)
Who I'd like to meet: Other authors. My readers. Teachers and librarians with an interest in YA literature.
Hi! I see you're also a big traveler. I LOVED Tahiti and Bora Bora; I went there for my honeymoon. Thanks for the friendship! I'll keep you posted when my series comes out in September.
