Elta Danneel Graul was born on March 18 in Lafayette, Lousiana. Danneel was raised in Eunice, LA which she has described as "very small. I think around 13-14,000 people. It has a little downtown and the post office." Her unique name comes from her great-grandmother (Elta) and a street in New Orleans which her mother drove by daily to work (Danneel). She has always gone by her middle name of Danneel instead of Elta.

Danneel moved to Los Angeles, California not knowing anyone there. She had no job lined up but knew that she wanted to live there. In an interview, she stated that she "packed up everything I had and went there. One of those stories."

Before she started acting, Danneel supported herself by modeling for a few years. One Thanksgiving Danneel went home with her boyfriend, Riley Smith, to spend the holiday with his family. His mother was a modeling agent in Chicago. She called an agency for Danneel and that agency ended up representing her. Danneel modeled for such company as Big Sexy Hair and Juicy Jeans.

Her first taste of acting came with a television commercial. From there she went on other auditions. She booked guest starring appearances on "MadTV" as well as "What I Like About You". She landed her first audition for a soap opera and booked the role of the fiesty Shannon McBain on One Life To Live. Unfortunately, the character of Shannon did not take off on "OLTL" and her role was written out the same year.

After leaving "OLTL", Danneel booked a number of television guest appearances from Joey to Charmed before landing the recurring role of Rachel on "One Tree Hill". On the hiatus between "OTH" seasons three & four Danneel booked two seperate movie roles, Parental Guidance Suggest and Ten Inch Hero.

At the start of season four of "One Tree Hill", Danneel was put on contract with the show. Danneel split up with her boyfriend of four years, actor Riley Smith in 2007. She is currently dating actor Jensen Ackles. Danneel lives in Wilmington, North Carolina when filming "One Tree Hill" and in Los Angeles, California during the hiatus from filming.
