Also in the MTL, Jerome DJ KOBAL has become an international touring funk dj + is responsible for releases on the sooper funkee Afro Kats record label....In NYC, hipster SMALL CHANGE weaves abstract sets at discos and loft parties every night of the week and hosts a Friday nite show on WFMU, while MR. FINE WINE + ex-Angelino PHAST PHREDDIE the Boogaloo Omnibus are two deep soul cats working the Manhatten/BK turf...In the nation's funk capital, New Orleans, DJ SOUL SISTER rocks nightly 'down n dirty' sets in the city's hottest of hot spots. She's runnin' ish + keeping it mad fonky...Holding down the rural midwest is a man called CHRIS BALL, y'all. C-BALL (or Indiana Funk) devotes all his waking hours to unearthing uncommon soul + funk 45's from neighboring states....in San Francisco, spinning Boogie + Disco is the one and only JON DRUNCK. JD is my brotha from anudda mudda. He holds down a fresh monthly night + sells wax @ COOL CHRIS' Groove Merchant vinyl store....COOL CHRIS oversees the Groove Merchant Records empire. He's a mellow, straight-ahead bro who consistently turns up scarce, exotic wax at fair prices....DJ GUILLERMO is an LBC bro who now calls the Yay home. He spins Latin, Funk and Boogie + always has a packed gig calendar....and in the UK, original funksters GERALD, KEB, GIANLUCA, FRYER, PUM and soulster ADAM LEVER have dedicated their lives to collecting + exposing exceptional 45's....also in London is my long time pal (and ex-Shriekback/Pigbag member) BRIAN NEVILL--a debonair cat who puts together compelling re-issues for Ace Records these days....These are some of the ppl who put it down proper + always are a pleasure to deal with....

i spin at clubs, lounges. parties + on radio. (You can listen to several mixes at Dublab.com/Holloway.) From '97 to '05, spent up to 12 hours a day pursuing obscure funk music. traveling to Brasil, Jamaica, Nigeria, Ghana, France, UK, Mexico and Canada digging for records...from LBC, but professionally began in London in the 70's: first as a staff writer on the NME music weekly, followed by a few years at Island Records. worked with BOB MARLEY, BURNING SPEAR, TOOTS & MAYTALS, JIMMY CLIFF and produced the HEPTONES album "Night Food". Moved back to L.A. after 5 years in London and went back with Island, eventually lasting 23 years. produced THE PLIMSOULS, signed SUBLIME, put together 22 soundtrack albums, etc...recently returned to music journalism + i'm the music supervisor on a Marley feature film, doing consulting work for iTunes + still producing music...i'm also still digging for + share the wax by spinning out or creating mixes for DUBLAB.COM...dh
