My own musical tastes can be pretty narrow. I've never been the kind of person that says I listen to jazz to sound smart and because I'm fairly sure I have a CD-R of 'Kind of Blue' lying around somewhere. Nothing against Miles, you dig, but give me three or four chords and lyrics that are a) about liking girls who don't like you or b) complete gibberish, and I'm happy out. If I were to name-drop influences I would probably make special mention of Oasis, Neil Young, Ryan Adams, Beck, Elliott Smith, Eels, the White Stripes, Tom Waits and Frank Black. But I'm not going to do that...
The 'Wayward Wine' EP is the first collection of music I've recorded that I feel is worthy of inflicting on the world. Having picked up the guitar at age 12, I eagerly 4-tracked my way through my teens and early 20's, recording dozens of albums worth of truly appalling songs. These included Oasis-by-numbers atrocities (complete with sun-shee-ine type lyrics), nasal-voiced Dylan rip-offs and alt.country embarrassments. While I wouldn't be so bold to say that the songs presented here are masterpieces in any way, I'm proud of them and I hope they might worm their way into the regular rotations of some of y'all out there in cyberspace. Much like the uninvited guest at a house-party - the one who nobody knows and everybody is suspicious of, but it transpires that he's a decent old sort who has brought a bottle of JD with him to share and even hangs around the next day to help clean up. Not that I've ever done that, but you get my meaning. I hope y'all like the tunes. I'm not playing around that much at the minute, but should this state of affairs change you will hear about it here first. I'll be adding and subtracting songs from the playlist with seemingly no rhyme or reason, so if you like what you hear there'll probably be some more along shortly. Be excellent to each other.
