General
I'm involved in film and theater (as an actor and also behind the camera). I'm currently appearing in Nashville Dinner Theater's Scattered, Smothered & Covered Christmas and then ACT 1's The Pirates of Penzance. I most recently appeared in Nashville Dinner Theater's production of Dearly Departed, starring Joyce Dewitt of "Three's Company." Last May, I was part of a staged reading of Rocket Boys: The Musical, based on Homer Hickam's autobiographical novel in Huntsville. My latest movie, A Night Out With the Boys, written and directed by Allison Hughes Stroud was shown at the Nashville Film Festival in April 2008. I've just finished a role in Dustin Masters' Further Down the Road, a short film scheduled to premiere at the Belcourt Theatre on December 17. For the media, my most recent WRVU radio interviews include Rue McClanahan, Del Shores, Beth Grant, Leslie Jordan, and Rosemary Alexander from SORDID LIVES (the movie and now the new series on LOGO TV), and "Three's Company" star Joyce DeWitt. For print, I've interviewed Delta Burke, Lily Tomlin, Kathy Griffin, Emmylou Harris, Gloria Gaynor, Kenny Chesney, Bill Anderson, George Jones, Patti Page, Loretta Lynn, B.J. Thomas, Billy Ray Cyrus, Minnie Pearl, Jo Dee Messina, K.T. Oslin, Mark Chesnutt, Vince Gill, Barbara Mandrell, Louise Mandrell, Irlene Mandrell, Sara Evans, Patty Loveless, Kathy Mattea, Marty Stuart, Connie Smith, Travis Tritt, Lorrie Morgan, Jeannie Seely, Kitty Wells, Hank Thompson, Chet Atkins, Bryan White, Steve Wariner, Grandpa Jones, Little Jimmy Dickens, Ralph Stanley, Chely Wright, and many more.
Music
My music taste is all over the map. I'm a country music journalist but really don't limit myself to that at all. I also enjoy bluegrass, alternative, jazz, classical, Motown, and rock (since my son, Ben, is an incredible drummer). I collect movie soundtracks and love film scores (John Barry, John Williams, Henry Mancini, Rachel Portman, Danny Elfman, Hans Zimmer, Bernard Hermann, Elmer Bernstein etc.).
Movies
I am a true film fanatic! I collect movie memorabilia, especially from the 1930s. My house is filled to overflowing with lobby cards, posters, sheet music, magazines, books, LPs, CDs, VHS and DVD movies. I own the world's largest collection of Martha Raye memorabilia (A&E used my stuff for her Biography segment!) and also collect Tarzan, Bomba the Jungle Boy, Doris Day, Three Stooges, etc. My favorite film has to be Gone With the Wind. I love anything directed by Alfred Hitchcock—Rear Window, Vertigo, The Man Who Knew Too Much, Rebecca, especially. But I have more modern favorites too—Harry Potter, Star Wars, Indiana Jones. I love animation, from the classic Disney, Warner Bros. and MGM to Finding Nemo. Don't get out to movies often enough but really love watching most any type film if it holds my interest and is well-photographed, directed and acted. I'm a big classic comedy and slapstick fan—Three Stooges, Laurel & Hardy, Chaplin, Buster Keaton, W.C. Fields, Marx Bros., any Blake Edwards movie, etc. If you haven't seen Rick McKay's Broadway: The Golden Age, then get thee to Amazon and order it! Now!
Television
Current favorites: Big Brother, Desperate Housewives, Law & Order SVU, Survivor, Brothers & Sisters, Extreme Home Makeover. All time favorites: I Love Lucy, The Honeymooners, The Carol Burnett Show, The Andy Griffith Show (especially the Don Knotts years), The Adventures of Superman (w/George Reeves), Twilight Zone, My Little Margie, I Married Joan, The Golden Girls, The Wild Wild West, Gunsmoke, Alice, Topper, etc.
Books
Biographies, autobiographies, anything on show biz — movies, TV, stage, anything by Patricia Highsmith, Fannie Flagg, John Berendt and Mitch Albom, and travel guides. I'm now a big fan of anything by Homer Hickam.
Heroes
My heroes are my parents, my late grandparents, my son Ben, my daughter Elizabeth, my four precious grandchildren (Jordan, Claire, Luke, and Campbell), my brother David and sister Rosemary, filmmaker Rick McKay, Martha Raye, Superman, Tarzan, Popeye, Roy Rogers, Moe, Curly, Larry, Stan, Ollie, Groucho, Chico, and Harpo. Oh, and Bugs Bunny and Daffy Duck.
