Music Video Director's Blurbs |
About me:
It won’t take long before you notice that his shoes are untied. Look further and you’ll see he’s wearing two different colored socks. There’s a questionable stain on his shirt, and (pending it’s not a weekend) he’ll almost surely need a belt for his oversized pants. He laughs kinda funny, not the traditional "ha, ha" sort of chuckle but rather the slow, dawdling "huh... huh" guffaw. His haircut is stupid. He, unlike most males in the city of self-indulgence, refuses to shave his chest. His breath probably smells like peanut butter and his shirt reading "I make stuff up" really needs to be washed. Yet, as you pass judgment on him, feeling certain that he’s another pale slacker doing nothing with his life, he hands you his directing reel. You decide to put it in and watch. Within the first minute, the beast becomes... well, a bit more beautiful.
This is director Danny Roew. He was never really good with first impressions...
Born in Wichita, Kansas, in a home that lies somewhere between where Wyatt Earp ceased a brothel and the original Pizza Hut opened its doors, Danny Roew had knack for visual storytelling. Throughout his youth, mastering a family-owned flatbed and several low-end cameras from parts unknown, Danny honed his abilities as a filmmaker and photographer before going to film school. It was at Southern California’s Chapman University that Danny turned sheer interests into superior talents, helming several short films and expanding his vast array of knowledge in every step of the filmmaking process. A man of many talents in both physical and post production, Danny was recognized as a one-man-band. A DP by day and an editor by night, Danny’s wisdom, experience, and off-beat character would find little trouble making it in the real world after graduation...
Even before finishing film school, Danny seized each and every opportunity that has come his way. Working as both an independent artist and a non-traditional businessman, Danny’s network paid off after building a production company with an Olympic sized pool of talent he works with on a regular basis. Notorious for making something out of nothing, Danny and his crew have produced a variety of music videos that have gone onto premiere on MTV, Fuse, Music Choice, and festivals around the country. And while he’d prefer, at times, to work with a large amount of cash to spend on fancy crane shots and deluxe craft service tables, Roew realizes that "It’s fun to take a risk on undiscovered talent, even if that means cutting all costs to materialize our vision."
Danny has lent his talents to high profile commercial clients such as Starbucks and Evian as well as demonstrations for Fox and Microsoft. In addition, Danny also shoots documentaries and DVD featurettes for films such as The Cavern, Journey to Lasta, and Havoc. Danny also frequently works as a reality director on shows such as CBS’s "Big Brother", and Fox’s "Hell’s Kitchen." He has produced several pilots of his own: "Welcome Home: The Making of a Reality Show," "Street-2-Chic," "Unsigned" and the banned-in-53-state epic-adventure, "Scamp Stewart," building a resume in the world of reality television (hoping to maybe one day be mentioned in this very sentence next to Puck and that shirtless guy from "Survivor" who just went to jail). Is there room to mention he once produced a feature documentary, Tha Westside (go rent it at Blockbuster).
So yes, Danny doesn’t know how to match his socks. Yes, he probably should have brushed his teeth AFTER downing that PB&J sandwich. And yes, his haircut will probably always be stupid. But take a closer look past the surface and discover a guy that’s every bit as good as the other guy you’re considering to direct your video... but for a 1/3 of the cost and 100 times the enthusiasm. Oh yeah, and incase you care, Danny has more friends on MySpace Film than many rock stars do AND actually attempts to comment everyone who expresses any enjoyment from his work.
Somewhere between substance and style with a sense of humor and a bit of sarcasm, Danny makes it quite obvious that he can turn water into wine... or at the very least, a margarita with the right amount of salt.
