• Bio

One of Harrisburg Pennsylvania's finest contributions to the music world is Danny Stuber. For Danny Harrisburg truly is his home base, always coming back when wrapping up a tour to Atlantic City, the Florida Keys, Atlanta underground and other places up and down the East Coast. Danny is both a gifted solo artist and also has a ready band when the need arises to perform to larger audiences or he just wants to get his groove on with the sound of a rocking band. The best selling point about Danny is no matter the genre of music, no matter the number of guys in the band, he brings a spiritual bond that comes across in his lush emotionally intense performances. His father was a well known and excellent Saxophone player out of the Philadelphia area; nothing strange about that but what does catch your eye is his mother also was a Sax player of renown as well. Danny's musical career began early, by nine he was playing drums but soon realized it was the keyboard that would give him the ability to do creatively what he loved while making a living for himself. With his natural affinity for a number of instruments Danny has never looked back but concentrated fully on going forward with playing and writing the music he was meant to play.
The power of music brings with it an uncanny ability to transcend barriers, uniting people who initially may have little in common, but find their similarities in the common bond of intense music. Danny Stuber and the City Rhythm band is sometimes an eclectic group of musicians who come from diverse backgrounds but who join together in a musical bond that clearly must be heard to be understood. The passion that can be heard on many of Danny's recordings comes from a deep faith in his fellow players while continually showing encouragement and giving support when needed as he explores the timeless and universal themes of love, friendship and rivalry. Danny takes it deeper by focusing on the determination of all of us to find the truth in life and to face all that life delivers.
Danny and the City Rhythm band features the living legend Sammy Banks on drums. In the early days Sammy traveled the chitlin circuit throughout the South. Sammy also worked with many living legends himself such as Ella Fitzgerald, Pearl Bailey, Colman Hawkins, Bud Powell and Sax great Sunny Stitt, and many more. Dave Santana can also be found filling in on drums at times. Dave's own bio is extensive having played with some of the best names in Jazz and blues. Butch "Funky Foot" Walker former drummer for Wilson Pickett is also seen working with Danny at local bistros. Willie Morales, who holds down the bottom end most nights on the upright bass,
Danny's first CD was titled "Don't Be Blue" on the Reea label featuring Danny Stuber on piano, synthesizers and all vocals. With Gary Bartz performing on Saxophone, the fabulous J. J. Wiggins on upright bass with Bunny Cox on Drums. This album is no longer available through normal channels but copies may be available through Danny. The second CD "Live at Scott's Grille" was recorded in March of 2006 with Sammy Banks on Drums and Danny on the keys. This album features many of Danny's favorites as well as some wonderful classic's like "Ain't Misbehavin" and "Oh What A Beautiful Morning," all done in that unforgettable "Stuber Style."
A few of the many artists that Danny has performed with are Al Grey, Jimmy Forrest, Buddy Tate, Tim Warfield, Roberta Davis, Ronnie Wells, Keisa Brown, Dave Stahl Big Band and Tino Gonzales. In the Harrisburg area Danny can be found playing at Hilton Towers, Hotel Hershey, where he was house band, Penn Harris Motor Inn as a soloist, Sheraton Inn and of course Scott's Grille where he was also house band. In Philadelphia he worked Zanzibar Blue w/Kiesa Brown, Warm Daddy's with Tino Gonzales, Hyatt Hotel, Avenue B and Hotel Rittenhouse as a soloist. In New York City he worked mostly at Manny's Car Wash with Tino Gonzales. Atlantic City was big for Danny as he worked the Showboat, Harrah's, Taj Mahal, Claridge Casino. In Baltimore he played Phillip's Crab House and Full Moon Saloon with Tino Gonzales. In Florida you could find Danny playing at Sloppy Joes in Key West, Tobacco Road in Miami and the Beechum Theatre Orlando.
Danny is one of those rare musicians who has taken the Miles Davis Quote to heart, "Don't play what's there, play what isn't there." He's taken jazz and twisted it to his own style, he's taken R&B blues and turned it around, added a splash jazz and dash of class and made it his own. Danny strikes a chord with his audience and continues to bring new intensity to his playing thanks to the support of his fans and the diversity of his playing ability.
