A Seattle WA native, tenor and soprano saxophonist and flute player Danny Welsh has long been a fixture on the Seattle and Northwest music and recording scene. Born in South Seattle's culturally and musically diverse Rainier Valley, Danny grew up listening to his mother's record collection which included Sam Cooke, John Coltrane, Miles Davis, Stanley Turrentine and many other soul and jazz artists of the sixties and seventies. Starting with the alto sax in the 4th grade and with the help and tutelage of teaching great Johnnie Jessen, he progressed quickly and by the time high school began, was well on his way to becoming a musician worth reckoning. After receiving numerous local and two national awards for his solo prowess he recieved a full scholarship to Cornish Institute's Jazz program. After touring three years with the Seattle funk group "Contents Under Pressure", and returning to Seattle, he began many years of recording (local radio, TV spots, many northwest and west coast produced records and CDs) playing clubs and a myriad of venues and events region wide. He has shared the stage with and opened for Branford Marsalis, Michael Henderson, Kenny G, Shock, Lakeside, Darren Motamedy, Michael Powers, Choklate, BET's Def Comedy Jam and many others.
