Dan Politano’s Sophomore EP, Let Me Out has what you would call real fire power. Being recorded at Baker Studios in Victoria, it was produced by Joby Baker who’s worked with artists like The Cowboy Junkies, Alex Cuba and The Paperboys.
“It was great working with him. He is so talented. I brought him songs that I didn’t really know what to do with and he made them sound great” explains Dan, beaming about producer Joby Baker. A one time touring musician now an in-demand producer, he played drums, piano and shared the bass with Dan on the three tracks.
Dan’s debut EP Staring With My Eyes Closed was released in 2005. Being produced by Juno Award winner John Webster, it saw three singles released. The second single, Smile was licenced to the Global and ABC series Falcon Beach which went on to be licenced in over 30 countries.
In 2006 he was a finalist in The David Foster Star Search in BC. This all led to him opening for some bigger names in Canadian music. Bands like Jets Overhead, Maurice, Tom Hooper (x-Grapes of Wrath), Winston and two sold out shows for Matthew Good.
The new EP, Let Me Out is titled after Dan’s writers block. “I went through a rough time where I couldn’t write anything. I was so frustrated with it I wanted to be let out of whatever it was I was going through,” says Dan.
The song Shattered Dan wrote about a friend who went through a tough time with drugs. He made a video for the song that has facts about Crystal Meth. Half of the money from the downloads of the song will be donated to The Crystal Meth Society of BC.
Let Me Out is the second release on Dan’s own label Solo Records.
