David Franks: Walkabouts Verse

Jun 23 2009 7:36 PM

(Hi: enjoyed my visit.)

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this poem sung on myspace...

Poem 2 of 230, WalkaboutsVerse
(please see my blog):
WALKABOUT WITH MY PEN

Once drove an old sedan, up north,
From a place in Sydney to Cairns;
Then to Kuranda I went forth,
By train, to look without set plans.

I browsed through the trendy market,
With fresh fruits of tropical kind;
Walked to the creek through lush thicket -
Nature’s hand giving peace of mind.

I dined in a scenic cafe;
Then, outside, as I wrote for yen,
Some passing Kooris called-out: “Hey,
You go walkabout with your pen.”

Request or question, I don’t know -
Assured voices, elderly men.
That’s now several years ago,
And I’ve seen the world - with my pen.

Dan Quinn my dearest:
Cordial thanks for having made our friendly and musical connection. You are a skillful accomplished musician and can play
the heck of an accordion I've been hearing out your instrumental tunes displayed and all are lovely.
Your rhythm is unique and an appeal to dancing, make sure that whenever you play these far-out tunes of yours at a dancing bash, not even wallflowers ladies will have a rest.
I'm sort of bewitched by the swing of your music, you would be for certain a success to play dancing balls here in Brazil.
Congratulations and good luck in your musical career. May you have spare time to go over to my provincial songs displayed here on My Space site, give a listen and send me your kind comments please.
Winding up my statements I'm sending you a fraternal musical embrace from your Brazilian admirer, ever,

Taquinho Noronha

After you've finished here, you may like to hear this folk carol, on myspace -

230 of 230, walkaboutsverse.741.com: AS GOSPELLERS HAVE SAID/CHRISTMAS SUNG SIMPLY

As gospellers have said,
Beneath signalling skies,
On land dusty to tread,
A trough in a stable
Was the strawy first-bed
Of a divine baby -
The forgiving Godhead.

A season for new hope -
There then and here now;
The yuletide of goodwill -
There then and here now.

In respect of this chance,
Beneath bright or dark skies,
Faith’s the star that we glance
Attending Christ’s churches
And trying to enhance,
With singing and ritual,
Our God-loving stance.

Poem-come-song: 101 of 230: JUST SUBSIST

At times when I’ve had time to take,
I’ve thought of a plot by a lake:
The plot would be of fertile ground;
The lake would have some trout around.

The plot’s house would be made of brick -
Well insulated, in good nick.
And round this abode there’d be built -
Solar panels, kept at best tilt.

Inside large coops would run the legs
Of chooks and quails - for fresh eggs.
A vine for grapes plus summer shade;
And, in thin beds, vegetables laid.

Up at dawn, to use all sunlight -
Fish and farm by day, read at night.
A spouse with me I’d not resist -
In retirement, we’d just subsist.
