I photograph reportage, gigs, art events, portraits. I've been published in national newspapers and, for my sins, magazines as diverse as Vice and Hello.
Have produced and programmed websites for many clients from unknown artists to big companies like Kellogg's and Morgan Stanley. Run my own web company, and have done since 1996. Ran Leo Burnett's UK web division for three years.
And here's a flyer for it:
I'm looking for submissions for the radio show - no straight-ahead indie, rock or pop please, just weird-and-wonderful cross-breed music: electro-punk, mutant disco, jazz metal, and other esoteric art musics and performance pieces.
I am a photographer - I photograph nightlife for Dan Shot Me and I have an exhibition of live music and performance photos currently on at The Washington. I am working on putting together another exhibition and a book featuring people in bars/clubs/gigs/parties - something should be ready in the next six to nine months. You can see more general examples of my photography on my portfolio website as well as on my Flickr page and my personal website.
I play a customised Rickenbacker 4001 bass geetar. For many years I played with Cathy Ray in London. After moving to Sheffield, and several years with nobody to play with, I'm now gigging with two bands: Karen Mulcahey and the 7% Solution feeds the folksy bluesy songy-y part of my soul, and The Tajalli Vortex allows me to let rip with any and every noise my bass is capable of making. I'm still desperate to find a free-jazz-psychobilly funky-punk-pop-improv-noise band that needs a bassist, if you fit that bill then please let me know and I'll come and help fill your bottom end (Mrs).
I am a London emigré, now an honorary Sheffielder. I founded the Internet agency Hard Reality, which was sold to ad agency Leo Burnett in 2001. Since then I've continued with the web work as Mark And Dan, published a magazine (FAD), done some writing, charity work, I'm a foster carer for The FCA... I guess you could say I keep myself busy.
Things I enjoy, and spend far too much time doing: going to gigs, photographing bands and audience members, and discovering new music. I've taken up acting for the first time since I was 17, joined Next Best Thing Productions and somehow managed to land myself major roles in all five plays I've done with them (including the lead in Moliere's "The Miser" - see photos)
Who I'd like to meet: Different and crazy musicians, movie directors looking for a stills photographer, Sheffield people, art people, mutant jazz music people, people who want their photo took... I'd also like to meet myself going sideways down a one-way street.
I'm DON'T want to meet any more wannabee NME-pollster indie bands (unless they're from the Sheffield/South Yorks area) or any more webcam whores. Thanks, but no thanks.
Here are some random photos from my Flickr account:
You can buy prints and canvases of my photos from Dan Shot Me and from my Photobox Gallery.
TV is the placebo of a population. This story of a kidnapped toddler, this "news," does not affect any single one of us. It has been latched onto with as much passion - and has as much relevance - as the "Free Deirdre" campaign when the Coronation Street character was imprisoned; the absolutely pathetic and sad Sun paper keeping that in the "news," too. In fact, we had more control over what happened to Deirdre than we do with Madeleine. Now here's the revelation for you. Are you ready for it? Okay then: the true reason for the emphasis on such stories as the McCann ordeal that make us feel helpless is...wait for it, now...the helplessness itself! Ha, ha!
